I am a big Obama supporter, and have been since seeing him during the 04 convention. But when I see this pic, I feel bad for McCain. In a lot of ways, he kind of reminds me of my own dad -- both are sons of Naval officers. Both attended military colleges, conservative, former Vietnam-era military officers, lifetime of govt service, extraordinarily loyal and patriotic, and similar blunt/sharp temperaments. Even their senses of humors are similar, as far as I can tell, and I have seen my old man making a similar self-deprecating "ACK!" face after making a goof. I think that type of reaction is Johnny Carson-era humor that many of us (esp. the gen Y kids) didn't have much exposure to.
I liked McCain back in 2000 (I ended up voting for Harry Browne that year,) but McCain's time has long passed. I do believe the world would be a better place now if McCain defeated GWB for the 2000 Rep. nomination. McCain, with his experience, would have taken the pre-9/11 threats seriously. He wouldn't have been a hands-off delegation-style leader like GWB, and probably would have had a more moderate cabinet around him to help guide domestic and foreign policy.
In my gut, I know "that" old McCain is still there -- like his humorous performance at the Al Smith dinner recently. Or how he was booed after defending Obama as not being "frightening" or "an Arab" at his rally. THAT'S the old McCain! He's probably sick about the same career political tacticians who are directing the GOP's campaign. The same cowards who smeared him in 2000, and who apparently overrode his VP selection and appointed Palin... I wouldn't be surprised if some day we learn that McCain kept some of these clowns reigned in vs Obama.
During this whole cycle, up until the VP selections, I'd tell people that no matter who won, both candidates would be better than Bush, and I felt comfortable about it.
But that is no longer true after Palin was nominated. McCain's age, his medical history, and Palin scare the sh!t out of me when I consider the huge challenges facing us today. These factors seem like the "perfect storm" that might push America past the brink...
Okay, I'm off my soapbox now... Thanks :-)

I agree with you. I'm with Obama, but I have a great deal of respect for McCain. If it wasn't for Palin I'd consider supporting him, though probably not. That's an unfortunate picture, and he looks completely ridiculous in it. That single shot is taken out of context, and it wouldn't look so bad as a short video clip.

What is the origin of the picture? What was going on at the time?

I think that photo was taken awhile back when Obama and McCain were dating. Its pretty clear in the photo that McCain is eager to caress and bite/lick Obamas ass. They should have stayed in "the closet".Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

Apparently McCain uses tongue wagging as some form of greeting too...

The tonge wagging is probably just his meager attempt to keep his drool from falling. I think it has something to do with his vice-presidential cannidate.
RobX are you going to put a title to this thread? May I suggest "Evolution"Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......
