Toby Young's "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People" is a pretty good read about an outsiders perception of America. There are some interesting ideas about meritocracy being shit. (His dad invented the phrase) Basically calling it as bad as a class system, only the people lucky enough to get to the top feel they deserve to be there and are arses about it.

I hear ya, red. The debate will go on and on. Seems there will always be antagonism between those who favor big, exclusive investment and those who favor consumerism as the real drivers of a soaring economy.

Most likely Obama will be our next president. And fortunately his beliefs are somewhere in between. The GOP has done a great job of convincing people that he's an ultra-liberal Communist terrorist as a way to swing votes, but you have to admit that it's just a bunch of manipulative rhetoric in just another heated, gloves-off battle for the presidency. Obama is right of Hillary, and is quite conservative compared to real liberals in other parts of the world. If nothing else, we'll be treated to a presidency that is in touch with a sense of moderation. I for one am very curious to see how it works, once all this election crap is behind us.

I truely don't believe there is a difference between big investment and consumerism, I believe big investment and multitudes of Billionares who buy businesses and continuously grow them create very good and numers jobs that give the "poorer" people more money to buy stuff. That is my informal and short version of the story.

Keep in mind everyone that is responding that I respect all opinions. Even though the facts will back up what I am saying, as will most economists, and wall street execs, who are the ones that see the ups and downs of our economy and what creates them. If we did not have some oposing faction there would be a monopoly that completely goes to crap.

But unfortunatly we are in a recession right now and this is the time that we need this spur of "greedy rich people" to have more money to create those jobs and spur this economy.

Obviously I am a realist and know that Obama is likely going to win, ok its probably a sure thing. It is going to hurt our economy even more when the taxes can go up in 2010.

One this I do have to question for all of you is the one party rule that will come out of this. Is it not quite obvious that with the most Liberal person in the government right now, and that is going by his voting record, not opinion, and very liberal people like Harry Reed (spelling?) and Pelosi in the congress, do you realize how truely bad it could be with no checks and balances?

And honestly do you really think Obama will veto the proposed bill to raise taxes on people who make just 40-50,000 a year. Obama will not be writing laws, and if the people that were extremely influential in getting him up there into power will be writing the laws. Is he going to veto his party members bill? No, we can all be realists and know that he will not do so.

And I do dissagree with you saying Hillary is farther left than Obama. Obama's record is clearly more left, he is doing what any politician running for president will do, which is pretending he will "cross party lines".

Anyway, I realize he is going to win but it is going to have some very negative consequences.

**** both candidates. I don't think we are going to get away from a socialist government in the years to come. That is why I have been putting money away in both my Roth 401k and Roth IRA. I don't think I will have more buying power when I retire from my investments. I do have a gut feeling that my tax bracket will be much higher. If they decide to change the rules and start taxing Roth investments, then someone is going to die. It won't be by my hands, but it will happen. If this happens, it will be the start of a revolution of one form or another.

Your going to be one of the main people that gets a kick in the nuts. PULL OUT NOW. I call it the "pull out method". The other method is straight protections method. This is putting your money in un-taxable bonds where the government can not reach them, you won't gain a whole lot bug at least the government under **** face obama can not steal it. I pulled my money out of the IRA. I took a huge penalty from pulling it early, but put it into General motors stocks when they were about $3, sold them when they were about $5 now I have a coulple thousand more bucks. Well, after much disappointment with the elections, I am trying to be a little more optimistic about Mr. O., my neighbors, and co-workers. I think O will let the tax cuts expire in 2010, that is if he does not want the market to come down too much farther. Currently I am not getting kicked in the groin due to some maneuvers I made a couple of Junes ago. So I am still making money. Yet, I am worried that in the not too distant future our government will get so desperate for money that they start taxing Roth investments.

I hope my optimism does not fade too quickly.
