now thats funny. Everytime I heard Big O talk about change I kept thinking of him reaching out with a tin cup. 8)
I'm serious....I almost posted about it too.Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......
I've been wrong lots of times. Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Time will tell.
I saw his first news confrence today. I got the sense he took a big ole bite of humble pie. I think the gravity of the job at hand is coming into focus for him. All those security briefings had to have been humbling not to mention the economy and campaign promises he now has to keep.
We'll see.

I don't envy him, but he better be ready to do the job he applied and was voted in for...

Yeah, I saw his first news conference today also, and I got a sense that while there probably won't be any miracles, this country - finally - has the right man, in the right place, at the right time. I didn't get any 'humble' anything out of it, and I'm sure there aren't any world leaders dictating anything to him. Where do you guys get this stuff anyway?

Bush was not a good president because of a few things... 1. He spent way to much money 2. He did not veto a single bill in his first years, leading to a bunch of pork crap. 3. he never articulated his views and will to the people of the state that elected him.
Now who are the "important" countries in the world? What I mean is who are we most interested in keeping happy. Number 1 to Americans should be Israel. Who is down right pissed because Obama won. Israel is basically our only friend in the middle east. Saudi is a friend but the only other country that we have invested so much in is Iraq.
We have won the war in Iraq, as stated by Iraq's own president by his request for us to be out in 16 months. So now we have two very important allies in the middle east. Not one of them is excited by the Obama nomination.
Of course Iran is happy, not once they attack Israel and Iraq, we won't come in and **** up thier country for being idiots. They like that.
Now Russia can invate Geordia, maybe some other countries of the old USSR and Barry won't do anything but watch and be a "diplomat". The world LOVES THIS BECAUSE BARRY IS WEAK and the other countries can now complete their twisted agendas. Or they can now gain the power they wish they had.

I got the sense of humility out of... tone of voice, uncomfortable body language and the long uuuuuhhhhhhhhhuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh in his answers. OK?
Nothing wrong with having some humility. Being humble is a great virtue in any leader. I should know, i've lived in a uniform since I was 17. I have also worked for the govt since I was 17. Please, bake some humble pie and take a bite for yourself. Its not bad once you get used to it.
-and even thought I voted for McCain, I wish Obama well. I'm not fully behind his some of his policies yet but i'll have to live under them. I hope he is a great president and turns the country around. He's my president now and I fully accept that. I won't bash him just like I don't bash Bush. I don't know if I could have done any better as president. (Not saying that i've agreed with everything either- but I don't have the information he does) I don't sit a the resolute desk and make those hard decisions. Anyone who tells you they could do a better job at it better run for prez or better be a former prez. If not, you're just full of the patties that my bull makes on my farm..

Well I was more responding to rollinred. I haven't seen the video in question so can't really comment on that, but what he said was a bit stupid. Nobody would sit by and do nothing IF Iran bombed Israel.
Diplomacy and approaching foreign affairs with anything other than "Lets bomb anywhere that looks as though it will disagree with us" might just work out, if given the chance.

And make no mistake -- Israel is a force. Their technology is second to none; their military is absolutely superior to all in the region, and their people are smart, tough, and tenacious like few others in the world. The world will never allow another genocide (uh, outside of Darfur?) but they are much stronger than you seem to imply in your message. A non-nuclear Iran would be wiped away if they attacked Israel, and I can not envision a situation where Israel will sit back and allow them to develop such weaponry (note what she did to Iraq's nuke program back in 1981.)
Do not forget that our influence in Iraq fundamentally changed Iran's counterbalance, which was the minority Sunni leadership in Iraq. Now gone. The USA's meddling has empowered Iran. Iran will likely not need to invade Iraq, but will instead exert her influence politically through shared ideology.
Also, please do not make the mistake about Iran being entirely "evil." The people there.. the common people... are very well educated, progressive and kind. Before our involvement in the region, they were surprisingly pro-Western (not too sure if this is still the case?) One of my former co-workers vacationed there around 10 years ago, and by all accounts the Iranian people are very warm, good people. I am hopeful that America's image can be restored to them, and eventually the majority there will rise up against the fundamentalist leadership. If that is what they wish then the US should (covertly, if the cia can do it without making another huge mess) lend her support to make that happen.
I think "Barry" will be a stronger leader on foreign policy, if only for the fact that he is intelligent enough to grasp the nuances in the region, will surround himself by experienced and diverse viewpoints in the cabinet, and will hopefully not be drive by idiotic shadowy ideology like some others.
At least that is my wish. I have high expectations for the man, and I hope he does not disappoint me.

At the press conference... I saw the hesitation as coming from a man who hasn't gotten a good rest in a long time, and who was still being careful about what he could and couldn't say. And yet still he showed a relaxed ease and a sense of humor.
