    Snusers and Scandinavian influenced music?

This is a little off topic but I lived in Norway for a while and black metal is a perfect match for the Norwegian landscape. In the darkness and the snow nothing is more apt then a bit of snus with some Darkthrone or Opeth.

I saw that Cap'n SnusBeard had Bal-Sagorth lyrics in his signature. I was wondering if there are any other snusers out there that are into Scandinavian influenced metal (death/black/folk/pagan)?

I was into loads of metal when I was younger - anything mean, fast, or heavy. Still have loads of it on cassette tapes buried away somewhere. More recently, though, I got massively into Finnish freeform - sort of a fusion of UK NRG with monstrous and ethereal nordic sounds at up to hardcore speeds. This stuff in a dark club is absolutely sinister but you can equally imagine tearing the open seas asunder with it on your way to either glorious conquest or Valhalla, whichever came first

    Pain on Creation - Ironworks

    few mixes

    Damien 3.0 - No Remorse
    tracklistiing

Bongo - Furious Finnish Freeform 1&2

    Kuruption - Get Finergized
    Tracklisting

links...more downloads and mixes in there if you dig around, if you're interested.

Pain on Creation, Alek Szahala, Carbon Based and the FINRG people, etc.

Yeah, a lot of my favourite bands at the moment are either Scandinavian or Slavic. I'm heavily loving a lot of that Finnish folk-metal that's around these days, such as Korpiklaani and Turisas - epic battles and getting drunk are the order of the day with that lot.

I used to be a lot more into black metal than I currently am, but I'll still often listen to the likes of Emperor and Ulver (even though they're pretty far from black metal these days, it's all good by me) and I'm highly anticipating seeing Immortal at Metal Camp in Slovenia later this year.

More recently my tastes have gravitated a bit closer to home, though, with Ireland's Primordial and England's Forefather rating among my top bands at the moment. KEEP IT EPIC NORTH-EUROPEAN GRIMQUEST!

I've been involved in extreme metal for years, much of it Scandinavian. In fact without it I'd never have heard of snus - the first time I tried it was from Tomas Lindberg's can of General.

Looking forward to visiting Norway for the first time for the Inferno festival in April.

Hey there. My music tastes are similarly extreme I suppose but in the jazz genre. Late-period Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders (my absolute favorurite musician), Sun Ra, Archie Shepp...

Korpiklaani are great, you should give Trollfest a listen, They are Norwegian troll/folk metal. Great for boozing it up with some friends.

Sounds pretty good actually, I have an album by DJ Proteus that sounds sort of similar. I think he may be Scandinavian

Love At the gates although I haven't really heard much of his later stuff.

That doesn't surprise me as AtG split up in 1997. Everything AtG have made is golden!

It wouldn't surprise me though if they decide to get together once again in 5 to 10 years or so for a tour.
Hell, if Wacken Open Air ask often enough (and wave a big enough wad of cash) they always seem to get their artist on the stage.
Witness Nocturno Culto playing Darkthrone live at WOA 2004 together with Satyricon (which itself has some ex-Darkthrone people in it). Atleast Fenriz stuck to his vow of never playing live shows. Anyhoo, I was extatic to hear live Darkthrone tunes IRL. *faints*

I bet it was good but I am glad Fenriz didn't play . I think the gritty album production is half of what makes darkthrone. Cutting out the low and high tones makes then sound all the more evil :P

My number one band is Meshuggah. I had never seen them in concert so I went last year and checked them out. When Jens was on stage he said something in English with his Swedish accent that I couldn't understand. He then pulled out a can of tobacco and put some in his mouth. Now I thought it was very funny as the concert was located in a very backwoods area I assumed he was dipping almost in a mockery of the native metal rednecks. Later on I found out that it was actually this strange smokeless tobacco called snus and was so curious about it my girlfriend bought me a Swedish match loose 8 pack sampler for Christmas. And the rest is history.

You have no idea how true this is.
There are some low quality phone-cam recordings of it on youtube but lemme tell you; first put on "The Hordes of Nebulah", now imagine it with a REALLY GOOD production and THREE guitairs plus a proper bass. Polished up and shiny. That's how it sounded. Completely different and somewhat weird if you've listened to it on CD a bazillion times before.
Nowhere was the sheer difference in sound as evident as when they played this track. Very weird.
While walking back to our tents you could hear Darkthrone coming out of just about every speaker in every car on the camping site.

He is indeed - he runs Säde in Helsinki but has something of a cult following in london and plays here quite often. He mixes up UK and Finnish tunes and his style is just crazy. Every time I've seen him play he manages to rejuvenate a crowd of withering zombies at 6am back to a state of chaotic madness.

Great stuff. Tol Cormpt Norz Norz Norz is one of my favourite albums ever.

Didn't Darkthrone play live years ago? I have a vague memory of a mate back then having been over to Norway to see them, c. 12 years ago.
