Vicious cycle to bitch about the economy without empowering people to participate in it.
Anyone getting a raise this year?

I'm gettin one tonight...............Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......
I've been wrong lots of times. Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

I work as a front-end loader operater loading a rock crusher, been there for two friggen years and during the first year we had a diffrent Supervisor who thought that since i lived at home with my parents at the time and since i had no experience he could hire me for about $9.50 when starting pay was $15.00hr, Two years later and im still not even making starting wage, and now we are on a wage freeze and they want me to become a forman of a crusher and wont even give me any incentive to do so! $14.00hr for being a forman when all the others get 17+ easily phssss...im with bakerbarber its time for cruise control until the bosses pull their heads out of their A**es and offer an increase if they want me to go up the ladder and deal with having 2 crew members to watch, a plant to keep in order and not piss off MSHA. I swear the companys here in the states are bending their employees over so they can fatten up their wallets so when the peverbial S**t hits the fan they can just lounge around while we suffer...blaarrrghhhh.....

I work on commission, mostly, in a industry that most people consider a luxury. With the economy tanking people are reevaluating their spending priorities, which translates to sales will be down next year. IF the boss doesn't downsize my ass.
Whatever! Life will continue. Maybe I'll go back to school and make the wife work 40+ for a while.

No raise yet, no Christmas bonus (well, I did get $50, but...). My company was on life support when i was hired in August. We had sponsored the first 3 Concrete Countertop Industry trade shows ever. but the show this year in Sacramento lost us over $40,000 at a time when we were already hurting. Despite the bad economy, I have brought in enough revenue these past 4 months to bring us back to even, at least.
My boss KNOWS I am underpaid, but I have told her I don't want her worrying about it, at least not yet. I did tell her that if things were good enough, she could make it up to me in bonus. but I know in her mind, things aren't yet good enough.
Hopefully, this next year is good. We have a bunch of stuff going on that will help. I know that when the money is there, she absolutely WILL take care of me. of that, I have no doubts. In the mean time, i will just be happy that not only DO I have a job, but it is a job I love.
The money thing will work itself out in due time.

Being a college student I am seeing a lot of changes happen quickly due to the economy. We are getting charged for printing on school computers. A hiring freeze for non-essential positions is in place (they consider non-essential to be proffessors). Tuition raised by almost 50 dollars a credit hour from last year. As well has a raise in the other fees for health, technology, etc.
The hiring freeze is hurting me because I'm an undergraduate assistant for my department. We were supposed to hire at least one new professor to take the burden off of overwhelmed professors, graduate assistants and myself. Guess I will just have to work harder for 8.00 an hour as I teach introductory classes with 200 students each paying almost 400 for a credit hour. I just keep telling myself, "at least I have a job."
Hopefully the economy will get better, but as it does with most things it takes time. Our over inflated stock indexes mixed with bad lending and the whole futures debacle completely screwed all of us. I wish the best of luck to everyone.
Edit: To answer the subject of this post... no I am not getting any damn raise! I could use it. It's hard to snus and eat with my wage.

The company I work for is in the broad-based health care industry. They are not affected much by this recession. I got the best raise in 7 years and then got promoted along the same line of work, mostly the same work with some increased responsibilities that will actually make the job more interesting. So I got more than a 15% raise this year. For the years previous it was harder to get a raise greater than the rate of inflation. So I have been blessed THIS Year. My wife quit her job for the newborn and we have still been able to make it without too much sacrifice. I feel bad for the people in the automotive industry. I swear out loud "how can anyone want to pay so much for a frickin car"? If I can not reason to buy a new car how can anyone else feel $30,000 for a new vehicle is reasonable? With regards to improving ones education...complete bullshit in my mind. The way the U.S. college education is set up, a person who gets a 4! year degree could be paying on the loans for 10, 20, 30 years to come. A form of enslavement that might not pay off in the years to come. If you want to get a good degree, look into one that has great placement after you graduate. Maybe a specialized degree or something like a chemical engineer so your options are wide open to get a job.
