Did you ever roll that? I've always been curious, but imagined it would make a harsh smoke.

I have. It was a bit harsh, but not as harsh as I expected. It was about as harsh as non-filtered camels, but much tastier.

I find PA to be a pretty smooth blend, particularly for a straight Burley and a great go-to if I ever run out of DnR. It's actually somewhat bland. I do make sure it's at a decent RH though as too dry will make anything harsh.

I'll have to pick some up next time I see it. I still smoke the occasional cigarette, and I like unfiltered Camels. I've been getting Bugler recently, because the local gas station sells it. It isn't bad, but it has a bourbony/licoricy taste that I don't care for in my cigarettes. I much prefer American Spirit, but I like the cut of the tin tobacco better. As little as I smoke anymore, the tin's too much to buy at one time.

Just FYI: The cut of PA tobacco threw off my rolling skills a bit. every cigarette i rolled came out about twice as thick as a normal RYO.
            Maybe its just me though.

I use a machine abstracto for both rolling and stuffing, so either way they come out fine.

Bugler is probably the tastiest drugstore blend, well I should say tastiest American drugstore blend. Samson and Jester are much better, imo. Bugler is a strong smoke and overly flavored, the Gold is a little lighter in body but even more syrupy. Of course AS is even better but I consider that a premium and it's N/A in drugstores where I live. I have to either order it or go to Faders.

Jester gives me a burny feeling in my throat every time. It's a stomach acid kind of feel. A shame, because I like the flavor a good bit.

I haven't had Samson in years, but I didn't care for it when I had it. At the time I was smoking old style Drum(made by Douwe Egbert(sp?)), and I thought it tasted like a cheap version of that. It's probably better than the new Drum made by Republic tobacco though.

I used get Old Holborn on occasion. It had a barnyard kind of scent, and was rather powerful, but it made a nice smoke every so often.

ZigZag used to have a nice shag cut tobacco that was very good. I don't know if they make that anymore though. All the ZigZags I've tried recently have tasted like cheap American blends.

The absolute worst I ever tried was RollRich :^O I can't believe anyone enjoys that garbage. I bet oak leaves taste better :^D

Jester has that Java leaf in it which doesn't seem to agree with some people, I really like what it adds to a 1/2zware.

Never had the EU Drum, just the crappy Republic Drum. It's actually not that bad when you consider their other offerings; Top and Gambler.

Zig Zag hasn't gone downhill, it fell off a cliff. That or my tastes have changed dramatically. I rate that stuff down there with Top and Gambler, the McCDonalds of RYO.

Never had the pleasure of Roll Rich and never heard a good word about it either. I seriously doubt it could be worse than Gambler though, but I really don't care to try.

Basically, all them cheap (although not inexpensive) brands like Top, Z-Z, Gambler, Roll Rich, Zen and the like, (theres many more) are nothing more than premade recipes in a tin. High amounts of recon and sheet with different syrups for flavors. I just stick with the ones I know that are 100% tobacco. I don't claim it's any healthier, but once accustomed to real tobacco, there's no going back, imho.

Samson was one of my favorites, along with American Spirit Black.
Then again I loved Top Menthol ops:

A menthol is good every so often. When I first started smoking cigs, Kools and Newports were my favorite brands. For just one cigarette, any menthol tastes alright to me. My RYO choice was Kite. Kind of crappy I guess, but it worked for a menthol fix :^D

Kite, and Bugler too for that matter, are probably pretty crappy in comparison to the likes of DnR and PS, but I still like em too. They were two of the first RYOs I started with and I still pick up the occasional pouch to this day. I guess there's a little nostalgia to them for me but whatever it is, they're both pretty tasty.

Swisher Sweets are like that for me. That's from a good time in my life when I was about 14 or 15. I'd stay up late at night watching Soap and Star Trek reruns, then go out on the back porch and smoke a cigar before going to bed. Life was sweet... Not a care in the world :^)

Funny, I'm the same way with those little dry-cured cigars "Parodis" (green/red and white boxes). They are basically just a cheap little cigar but them things are good as shit! The naturals are the best but they also come in a couple flavors nowadays too.

The main problem with smoking is just that...the smoking. And although you won't get lung cancer (probably) from smoking pipes or cigars if you don't inhale, that doesn't stop the carbon monoxide from going into your bloodstream through the mucous membranes in your mouth and nose. That's the real danger, and as somebody said earlier, it would probably be the same way with other things you burned and smoked besides tobacco too. And it seems to be that the more chemicals/flavors/oils/etc that are added to the tobacco, the worse the damage is, because the smoke will be more potent.

Don't fret, though, I'm not trying to come down on anybody for smoking, so don't take it the wrong way. I smoked cigars, cigarettes, and pipes for years. I just feel a whole lot better using smokeless forms now. I tried a nice hoyo de monterey cigar that I would have loved before a few months ago, but it just didn't taste that good anymore.

Yeah, I got on a pipe kick once to ease a chronic cough from cigarettes. It would get worse while smoking a pipe, and I never understood why, as I did my best not to inhale anything. Real nasty cough, too, with an almost plastic wheezing and everything.

I gave big thanks to the snus gods again the other day when the Korean guy who came to hook up my cable the other day had the most horrible wheeze, just with his regular breathing. Scary. Heard it again today with another dude as I was getting on the subway. And yet another guy who was coughing so badly that the people around him had to move away.

                                All hail snus.

But a pipe of quality tobacco is pretty nice.

Edit: Damn, it seems the original Dunhill 965 has been discontinued within the last couple of years. I wonder why the hell they did that. :?
