    Vegemite

    Anyone else like Vegemite? Since I can pretty much write about anything on this part of the site, why not this? I use it everyday. I suppose it is an acquired taste like snus in some regards. I suppose I am weird for a US domestic since i love blood sausage, liver sausage, smoked oysters, snus, Vegemite, sardines, pickled herring (not the wine or cream type), anchovies, and malt liquor (not too extravangent am I?)


    On a side note: why is snus not in the dictionary when writing a post? It is always underlined as being an incorrectly spelled word?

      I've never had Vegemite. I do like Marmite though. Good and salty...Nice on crackers and pretzels.

      You can add snus to the dictionary. That way you won't see it as an error.

          First: I am ignorant since I did not know that there was a dictionary where I could add it (snus). Please help so that I am less ignorant

          Second: Vegemite is like a thicker version of Marmite. Marmite you can pour at ambient temp, while Vegemite one must spread. I prefer Vegemite, since I consider it lasts much longer than Marmite. It is used as a beef bullion substitute for soup as well. In short, it resembles a spreadable beef bullion more than anything else that I have ever tasted.

              When snus shows up as a misspelled word, right click it, and choose "Add to dictionary" from the context menu.

                    Now that Xobeloot is making a grilled cheese and Vegemite sandwich I will definitely have to try Phantom Blue Los!


                    On a side note: The right-click dictionary addition will not be forgotten. Thank you to lxskllr!

                      :? I've never been able to pour Marmite. It used to be thicker and blacker but it's still pretty damned thick! I prefer Marmite because it's made from the leftovers of decent beer production. :wink:

                      If you right click on a misspelled word it comes up with what it thinks you're trying to say, and the option to add it to the dictionary.

                        2 tbsp butter + a tbsp of Vegemite + 2 handfuls of cooked pasta mixed all in a scorching pan = quick and scrummy grub. I sometimes toss in canned tuna, Italian seasoning, and/or grated cheese for a more complete treat. Avocados on toast w/ Vegemite (or Marmite) is awesome, too.

                        BTW, Vegemite is made from Brewer's yeast, the exact stuff used for fermenting beer.

                          Me grew up in the UK eating much Marmite; Vetimite is pretty good also. The thing I really miss are Twiglets. They're like small crusty branches with a Marmite-like flavor.

                            I've enjoyed Vegemite a few times; crisp toast, lots of butter, little bit of Vegemite. With tea, of course. :-)

                            I didn't know it was made from brewer's yeast. One thing I firmly believe about homebrew beer is that having the yeast in the bottle helps prevent hangovers. I don't suppose anyone has tried using Vegemite or Marmite as a hangover prophylactic?
