Greetings from Kentucky!

Well... I stumbled upon this site while doing some research on snus, and it looks to be a very interesting forum.

So, I joined!

Still haven't gotten to try any of this stuff (snu..ff?) yet, but I currently am waiting for a can of General portion from Northerner. If I like it, I'm pretty sure I'll start buying rolls.

...And more rolls.

Yes, I live in Kentucky. A place that I feel is so utterly confused with itself that it can't figure out what to do. So...we're one of the top tobacco growing states (technically Kentucky is known as a Commonwealth, not a state, but I'm just being general about things....) in the U.S., and yet, many of the cities and towns here are enacting smoking bans.

So, in my search to get around this restriction, I've tried U.S. Snuff (pouch form...I just am not too big on tobacco granules directly in my mouth, although if I ever get an icetool, I might try some lös snus, just for the heck of it...) and...well... I'm a smoker...spitting to me is both inconvenient (where are you going to put the stuff if you're inside?) and kinda gross. So, I was looking around at varieties of smokeless tobacco, discovered snus, and said "Hey, that might just work!" Yeah, quitting tobacco entirely might be more healthy for me, but...well... I've tried, and even after a few of months of non-use...well... let's just say that it wasn't healthy for the rest of the world, or my state of mind. :wink:

So... teaser question for y'all (yes, I'm from KY, yes, I say y'all, no, I don't have a recognizable accent (or at least the people around here tell me so...)), from what I can tell, Swedish Match owns Pinkerton Tobacco of Owensboro KY; will snus ever start showing up in regions near there? (its something to hope for, I guess...) I checked their store locator, and the closest shop to buy something is in Virginia, over 300 miles away. :cry:

Anyhow...sorry for my rambling... its past my bedtime, and I'm kind of feeling sleepy (gas station clerk: third shift - 10pm-6am). Hopefully I can share my snus experiences with you all eventually.

Welcome aboard NEIGHBOR! (I'm in SW Virginia). BTW, did you know that some of the tobacco used to make Snus comes from Kentucky??? Strange, isn't it, that it has to travel across the ocean from your backyward before it comes back as Snus, isn't it? :wink:

Thank ya for the welcome! Yeah, I read somewhere that some KY tobacco is used in the production of snus, and it struck me as somewhat ironic that it has to cross the Atlantic twice before it gets to me. :lol:

Of course, considering that, and taking into account that Pinkerton Tobacco of Owensboro, KY is owned by Swedish Match, it also gives me some hope that perhaps, if the test market selling goes well, there might be some snus manufacturing on this side of the big pond. (I have my doubts, but hey, ya never know....)

Hey, you'll be glad to know that Swedish Match has begun selling here in Louisville. I went over to Kremer's Smoke Shoppe downtown the other day and bought 10 cans of General White Portion Large. So far, so good... but I find it a bit too salty for my taste (it is the first Snus I've tried).

I hope they bring some more flavours in soon, I'm anxious to try Roda Lacket. Anyway, I hope snussing takes off here in Kentucky, quite a few people like the Skoal Dry that's been tested here so maybe they'll like a spitless moist tobacco.

don't waste your time and try one of the webshops. It could take a long time, till Swedish Match expands it's selection of locally available brands. They are very, very cautious, when entering new markets. Also, they own some dip and chew-brands and obviously don't want to be their own competitor. The webshops are probably even cheaper (in most cases, no taxes are charged).
