Hell yeah! Well, I'm not really "military"...I'm in the Navy. J/K, I'm in the submarine force, stationed in GA right now. I love my job...most of the time.
Just missed my last advancement exam by 3.09 points, so I'm still an E-4 until at least June, since my next exam is in March.
I believe BMasiak is in the military as well, although I don't know which branch. Also, I think we have some members in the Swedish or Norwegian Army, but I'm not sure.

Sorry to hear about your injury... Thank you for your service brother in arms

I hate to say it, but as a guy in for 3 years, the quality of the chiefs on my boat has pretty much soured me on khakis forever. I'm sick of their attitude that if you want better results, just make everyone stay at work longer. We just got back from a nearly 80 day patrol, and while the Captain wants us to take try off, the chiefs are just bringing us in on off time. Our A div chief asked a guy to skip his leave period to go to a school.
The Navy is the only branch of service where E-7 and above wear different uniforms than the rest of the enlisted, and if you ask me, it creates a divisiveness in the enlisted ranks because our chiefs believe that they're better than the blue shirts.
I can only hope that this isn't something that is encouraged in the other CPO quarters, and that it's an isolated incident. As it is, this attitude may convince me to get out instead of reenlisting.
I'm assuming that you're a surface sailor, so I would guess you don't interact with junior personnel as much as our chiefs do; for example, our old chief used to host Halo barbeques at his house for the division, and it wasn't uncommon for him to ask us to call him by his name instead of "chief". Maybe I just got used to his attitude and am spoiled, but OTOH, the division's performance has suffered under our new chief as well, so there has to be something to my opinion.

hehe not all Chiefs are like your Chiefs! I am in Aviation, but have been around surface and Air my whole career. Whats happening to you is BS. Sometimes Chiefs forget where they came from and thats a shame. My LPO runs things, if it gets elevated to me then theres a serious problem. Your Chiefs arent letting the First's run things like they should it sounds like. Hang in there, people transfer and new blood comes in.

Ehh, respect where respect is due in the end. I had to deal with some real asshole chiefs when I was in, but I would say I knew just as many cool ones as well.
Interesting story:
Back when I was an airman apprentice (E-2), my shop used to "volunteer" me for the line handling parties when the carriers pulled in. Anyone who has pulled lines on a boat knows how dangerous it can be if those ropes get pulled too tight; one snap and then it's like a knife through butter if anyone or anything is in the way.
This particular time I went, they had a total dickhead chief supervising the thing, and this guy was just on a complete power trip....walking around with his coffee cup glued to his hand and yelling that he was going to write everyone up because they were moving too slow.
Well, they had about half of the lines pulled when the ship suddenly shifted, and the end lines started to go taught and vibrate. This chief was so busy yelling and drinking his coffee, he was just strolling right under these ropes about ready to snap. The E-2's and E-3's tending the lines just ripped this guy a new one; yelling at him to get the hell out of the way and calling him a dumb mother****er, you name it. One of them finally just grabbed him by the arm and just yanked him out of the way. When that chief looked up and saw how tight that line was, he went white as a ghost....I'm surprised he didn't shit his khakis. :P
The line didn't snap, and I'm sure that no one got wrote up that day (except for maybe the chief), but it just goes to show.....you have to respect rank, but when it comes to a life or death situation, it don't mean shit what's pinned on your collar.

Well, that is one advantage of working in submarines...the THEORY is that you leave your rank at the hatch before you come down. Now in reality, we have about 160 guys, might be a little more, might be a little less, and most of us are pretty good. We know we're good at what we do, and we help out other divisions as best we can. Also, if you're ****ed up, it's ok to say so. I've told the captain to take his hands out of his pockets before, and it's cool.
The only real exception is our damned chiefs. I'm surprised they haven't petitioned the captain for permission to eat in the wardroom. Did you know that our cooks feed the chiefs before the captain? Now, I'm all about respecting my seniors, and if you're good enough at your job to make it to the top third of the enlisted payscale, I should probably give you some respect; but I am sick of my command perpetuating this practice of treating chiefs better than everyone else just because they get to wear a different uniform.
Ugh, I'm sorry I got onto this...it's so frustrating, and Husky, thank you for agreeing that it's crap, that's really big of you. I know chiefs that will back a chief regardless of if he's right or wrong just because he's a chief.

i was a sonar tech on a sub. i was only in for a couple of years. i sadly can confirm that when they say zero tolerance for drug use they aren't joking. the biggest regret in my life. a pretty big statement since i have 2 ex wives, a bankruptcy, and kicked out of one rehab under my belt. on a positive note. snus is one of the smartest things i've ever done.
