I see three fake “Judge Faust” user ids that are posting as the real Judge Faust. I’d say we shouldn’t resort to such tactics, either fight him like a man or just simply ignore him by not replying to his posts. I don’t believe anyone of us is afraid of him or is intimidated by him; it could very well be the opposite. I think by mimicking his user id or posting as him we are making this thread go on for a long time.

Wait, this thread got resurrected? It was starting to die! Why?! I mean, we've got fun threads in this section of the forum on hookahs and zombies and cute animals, and we go back to an argument no one's going to win and just makes people annoyed? Seriously? Give the damn political debate a friggin' rest.

Heh; interestingly enough, I seem to draw imitators wherever I go. What can I say - people love to pretend to be me. It is almost flattering.

On the other hand, it is unfortunate that my imitators cannot be bothered to spell well. Nor can they be bothered to properly capitalize their sentences... The Imperial system of education has obviously failed them.

I claim no responsibility for the asshattery that ensued in this thread.

Agreed. They're gone. Free expression of opinion is one thing, obvious trolling is another.

To get somewhat back on track, I would like to share a local story with you.

Yesterday, an armed ex-felon shot 5 Bay Area police officers. 3 of them died; 1 remains on life-support.

Since the start of this millennium, 10 Bay Area police officers have been murdered in the line of duty. Of those 10, 8 died after being shot.

In a truly civilized nation, this would be unacceptable. In the US, it is unremarkable. Those of you who happen to be gun-nuts are forgetting a minor detail: this isn't about philosophy, it is about human lives. Your hypothetical "But I need my guns to protect myself from the government!" diatribes are irrelevant in the here and now. Thanks to your Libertarian thought processes, the Empire is a veritable killing field.

Is it not time to change for the better? Is it not time to become civilized?

I agree with that statement whole heartedly. Look at our neighbors to the icy north. I forget the exact percentage, but I know that it is a HUGE percentage of gun owners. Do they have shootings? Yep, on a very rare basis... And those shootings are typically crackheads that crossed the borders from the states.

The bottom line is that gun control does absolutely nothing due to exactly what you just said. This country is a haven for criminals and drug addicts. We can pass as stict of gun laws that could be passed and people would still be getting shot/killed daily.

Why? Because it is not your average citizen doing the shooting. The people here on the forums arguing against gun control are not the people killing people. The people killing people will not in any way be affected by new gun control. They get their guns off the streets, they kill on the streets, and if they get busted, they get to go to a disney world-like resort (prison) where we pay for them to get college educations that most hard working citizens can't even afford.

Is there any way to repair this aspect of this nation? I personally do not believe it is.

I have to say that we are on the same page with this one Faust.

Heh. You don't even check the validity of your claims before you make them, do you?

Gun ownership in Canada: 6% of population.
Gun ownership in the USA: 25% of population.

I believe that I have addressed this previously, but what the hell.

You see, guns, unlike drugs, do not grow on trees. The vast majority of American criminals acquire their guns from a legal owner of said guns. If you believe that it is easy to smuggle an illegal firearm into this country, you are sadly mistaken. Such smuggling is extremely expensive, very inefficient, and probably will gain you over a decade in a federal prison, which will play havoc with both your morale and your rectal health.

Really? Here are 3 stories from the past 3 days:

                            1) In New York, man goes on killing spree, leaving 13 people very dead:

                            http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7982444.stm

                            2) In Pittsburgh, man is afraid that Obama will take his guns away. Naturally, to voice his displeasure, he slaughters 3 police officers before committing suicide:

                            http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7983894.stm

                            3) In Washington, man is upset about his wife leaving him. As a result, he decides to murder all 5 of his children before offing himself:

                            http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7984748.stm

Hmmm... It doesn't really get any more "average" than this. A guy that hates immigrants, a gun nut, and a loving father of five. These are not exactly hardened criminals; these are average Americans with access to guns.

Actually, the guy in New York was not American...
