To be fair, the video clip was not about innocent humor - it was about making the standard conservative argument for civilian gun ownership. The fact that it masqueraded as "humor" does not make it apolitical.

So, I suppose that the "****tard" that made this thread political is the original poster, whomever that may be...

Look at it this way. What if I were to post the following:

To me, that's great humor. Do you think it would draw a lot of hate on this southern-dominated forum? You bet your ass it would. Political humor is in the eye of the beholder.

Thank you, Dr. Freud, but your analysis is a bit off. Once again, I must point out that belittling and insulting me does nothing to advance your arguments.

To excuse Stalin is just as reptilian and irrational as denying the Holocaust.

My Grandparents are gone now. However, I just had a conversation at Christmas with my brother's wife's Grandma from the Ukraine. She actually ended up in two concentration camps: Russian and German. She said the Russian one was even worse. I asked her if this was because of debate between the Germans themselves over the utility of using Ukrainians against the Soviets. I don't think she understood what I was talking about. lol. Long story short: I could see the pain in her eyes when she talked about the atrocities dished out by the Soviets.
You're a historian and you're arguing from anecdotal evidence? Oh, wow..

Look, arguments like this may work on Oprah, but they simply do not cut it when you're debating actual history. Try spending less time looking into people's eyes and more time looking at cold, hard facts.

Yes, I know this sounds harsh, and I apologize for that. I do not in any way wish to attack your relatives or to excuse any abuses that they may have suffered during the Soviet era.

However, abuses exist under all governments, at all times. If a nation has a single unscrupulous cop, there will be abuses. But that is neither here nor there - what we are concerned about is the degree to which the rulers condone, encourage, or cause said abuses. It is here that your argument falls apart.

For every anti-Soviet account you can give me, I can easily give you 10 anti-US ones in return. In my line of work, I hear more than my fair share of accounts of simple folks being screwed over by the Imperial government, police force, prosecutors, judges, etc. Is that a valid argument against the US? Without further statistical proof, it is not.

Also, in the interest of full disclosure, I was born and raised in the Soviet Union. No one that I know has ever suffered under Soviet rule. No one that I know within the (ex)Soviet Union has ever known anyone that has ever suffered under Soviet rule. Take that for whatever you think it is worth...

            Hey, Xobeloot.

Having reread the first couple pages of this thread, I noticed that they were entirely dominated by the pro-gun ownership crowd.

My question for you is: why did you not complain about THOSE blatantly political statements? Or does a thread only become political when someone disagrees with your own political opinions? Is that not hypocritical??

            Hmmm....

Hey, Xobe, why don't we form a platoon of zombie hunters? Hell, we could form our own company dedicated specifically for that and let the government contract us.

The funny thing is I was feeling a little Oprah-ish when I wrote what I did and kind of cringed after reading it. I'll give you that.

But its true, two of grand parents suffered horribly under Stalin. And I believe Oral history to be pretty damn important.

I have no political stand on guns. What I do know is that before you started spouting off, this thread was a fun discussion, not an argument.

If you want to flex your e-peen about your political views... Start your own thread. Don't do it in any thread that I start.

In fact, you did the same thing to this thread that you tried to do with our knife thread...

Why don't you just piss off and go back under your bridge and wait for some billy goats to spout your crap at.
