I'd personally like to have a USP45. Shot one last year with my buddies and it just felt right in my hands. I hear the HK45 is a touch better, but until I shoot one at the range I wouldn't be able to really decide whether it's better or not. From what I hear, though, it's a good weapon.

For sheer intimidation, though, few things will beat the sound of a pump action shotgun being racked to chamber a shell. The only other sound I can think of that'll outdo it is the sound of it firing. XD Don't know much about shotguns, though, other than my uncle's Mossburg and Benelli were both really nice to shoot.

On an sidenote, anyone know how well the USP and HK45 series do for CCW? They seemed a little thick and could print easily.

HK makes a good weapon. It seems to me that even theri compacts are about "normal size" for other manufacturers.check out the HK 45 Compact. they also make the USP in compact size. Im sure you already know that.

If i was going to spend that kind of money on a pistol for concealed carry use, i would just get a Kimber Ultra or Pro carry. Sig P239 is pretty cool, as well....and the Walther PPS. Those are all fairly high dollar solutions.

Now, Im not glock super-fan, but the great thing about them is that they will work every time. they just about have the sub compact market cornered. I have all of mine in .40, because the full size mag can fit into the subcompact and it will function.....so now i dont have to keep up with ammo/magazines from a primary weapon AND a backup. also, the S&W airlight revolvers are like a sore dick....theyre hard to beat.

I've shot two Glocks and hated them both. I'll agree they're reliable as all hell, but they just didn't feel right in my hand. Had to readjust my grip after each draw, which isn't something I want to do if I ever have to draw in a real situation. And the trigger safety just threw my shots off. I'm sure a Hogue grip would fix the first problem, but the trigger safety is a pain in the ass for me.

I've handled a USP45 compact, but haven't shot it. It felt a little thicker, and was more a medium frame than a compact if I recall. Haven't handled or shot a Kimber before so I should probably give those a shot (no pun intended). As for Sigs... wonderful weapons. A little heavy, but still wonderful.

A good personal defense gun usually= one you can shoot well. I personally love my Springfield EMP... but the glock or ruger will do too. Maybe the old wheel gun.. I guess just what's handy cause they're all loaded. Maybe bust out the 12 ga. with the best "stopping" power of them all....

Dammit I can't shoot anyone cause I can't decide what to shoot them with!

When it comes to home defense, the shotgun that makes the loudest "CLA-CLACK!" is the best. When someone hears that, they're headed in the other direction.

PP, Federal law says 18 inches. BUT with a $200 tax stamp and a federal background check ( 6 months or so) you can own shorter barrels.
The pictured short pump shotgun in this thread is an execption. It was manufactured with the pistol grip so it's considered a handgun, but since it's a large diameter "caliber" it is AOW, Any Other Weapon, and only requires a $5 tax stamp. Federal gun laws are confusing at best. State laws tend to worsen the situation.

Thanks for that info. Thats what I thought. Yea the laws can be confusing, and Illinois gun laws are one of the strictest of all the states. We are required to have a permit just to own a gun here. And felons cannot have guns at all. But under certain special situations and conditions a felon can get a permit. Tho, the general rule is that if you are a felon you simply can't have a firearm. And owners of private schools and child day care facilities cannot be felons either. However, if your closest neighbor and good friend is the second most powerfull politician in the state, and you are a good boy, its possible for a felon to have a permit to own guns and own a school. he he he.

the firearm in the photo on the first post is one nasty looking cannon.

GA law would hold that weapon to a different standard. Sometimes the laws (fed and state) don't play nice:

Possession of shotgun or sawed off shotgun:
Shotgun means a weapon, designed or redesigned, made or remade, with a cartridge that is intended to be fired from the shoulder: OR designed or redesigned, made or remade, to use the energy of the explosive in a fixed shotgun shell to fire through a smooth bore or rifled bore either a number of ball shot or a single projectile (slug) for each pull of the trigger....

Barrel length must be 18'' and overall length must be 26''

It appears that the state (this one at least) identifies and defines the weapon by the ammunition, rather than the configuration.
i have a federal firearms book here in my office, ill have to find it

Let's not forget about the zombies either. I already posted the survival guide, but are you taking advantage and preparing with it? Remember, looters and competing survivors are just as dangerous as those damned zombies. Twelve gauge double-0 buckshot and a 7.62mm round from an M14 will deal with both efficiently.

I'd still have it loaded if that's not illegal. One thing to try to intimidate, but if I were to point a weapon at someone it'd be to kill. And anyone trying to carjack you while you're in your car is likely to be armed themselves.
