Ahh Dear Desirexe, I'm whom ever you want me to be. But thats not me. 8)Originally posted by desirexePremium Parrots:

I saw your pic a few months back in the member's gallery...you are that sexy older gent in leather chaps right???
keep looking, my photo is on the siteGrant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times. Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Damn all of you!
All of your adorable pets are making me want one!
I have done some research on chinchillas and hedgehogs (really the only practical pet for me now). I think I'm leaning more towards the chinchilla.
Question: I am a poor student. Do they initially cost a lot (them, cage, etc.)?
Are they pretty sociable, and if so is it only at dusk/dawn?

bearcat87: My hedgehog wasn't to expensive. I'd say 2 to 3 hundred bucks out the door with everything I needed. He is very sociable one he wakes up(they are nocturnal). He can be a little grumpy when you first wake him but all he does is ball up. Soon as I pick him up he unrolls and hangs out. They can be litter trained and are very friendly, never tried to bite me. Pretty cool pet

Thanks! But I have a few more questions.Originally posted by SSgtTravbearcat87: My hedgehog wasn't to expensive. I'd say 2 to 3 hundred bucks out the door with everything I needed. Is it expensive to feed them? If I remember correctly they eat hay and bugs???
Can you let them roam around the house for 10-20 min without expecting droppings??

My hedgehog eats dry hedgehog food. Not very expensive. A lot of people feed them good quality dry cat food, not very expensive either. I do give him meal and wax worms as a treat though. They are pretty cheap. You could let them wander around indefinately if you litter train them. Mistakes are bound to happen though. They are a pretty easy animal to take care of and are pretty smart. Lots of sites online about them that talk about training them. They really are a cool pet and easy to take care of. They are illegal to have in some states though. Mainly states where they have a potential to become a ferrel species.

I was thinking the same thing!Originally posted by XobelootFeral hedgehogs. I'm sorry, that would be awesome!
All the info is appreciated SSgtTrav!
Not sure if now is the right time for me to get one. If I do I want to train it properly and be able to provide and care for it to the best of my ability. Nothing peeves me more than someone getting a pet (or a kid for that matter) and neglecting it.... then everyone would end up like Xobe. God help us. The national sport would be paintball and Mc'Ds apple pies would replace grandmas but no one would ever have to worry about apartment fires!

I totally agree about waiting until the right time. I waited 8 years to have cats, until I was sure I could take good care of them. Then again, when it comes to animals, one's never really ready, because they challenge a person from the start in unforeseen ways.
