I love it, but living damm near in the middle of the USA (minnesota) it can be somewhat pricey. I was in Okinawa when I was in the navy, and we visited a sushi house out in town. Best sushi I ever had. Also lived in Washington state for a spell, and had excellent sushi there too.
Love it, but I've learned to avoid "grocery store" sushi. Usually the rice is like a mashed up paste and even if it's fresh, it's kind of "gamey" tasting. When I did Filipino martial arts in Seattle, there was an awesome sushi joint across the way that had a 16 piece special for $3.99 USD, you could customize your combination and it was soooo delicious. I'd get 2 of these combo platters, one to take home after class, and usually we'd all sit around bull$hitting and eating sushi, on sushi days there wasn't a whole lot of training going on.
I love sushi, it's just so goddamn expensive. It's a definite occasional treat of a meal. I actually had some decent grocery store Dragon Rolls tonight.
Nothing beats an occasional 100 dollar splurge at a sushi restaurant. Once I start I can't stop!
My wife loves sushi, I can't stand it but then I really don't like fishy stuff. She make sit about once a week and it's a great excuse to go get some Taco Bell :P
I love sushi, and having worked in restaurants for a few years(with people who've worked in restaurants for decades) I have an eventual plan to open my own sushi bar. The profit margin for sushi is huge. For many people beer and sushi is inseperable, so the liquor license would be the biggest investment.
