    Obama legalizes wiretapping

I'm a new user on the forums, I've been lurking off and on since I started using snus... about a year ago. Anyway, Obama has legalized the warrentless wiretapping of citizens on the U.S.
During his campaign he berated the Bush administration for this breach of private rights, how can he turn around after only a few months and practice the opposite of what he preached? Not only that, but how can he defend that administration and help them to escape reprimand?
Whichever party you ascribe to, this reversal of policy should be something to watch.

    Welcome to the forums, Bazzah.

It doesn't really surprise me that Obama is on board with the wiretapping thing. Nothing that happens politically in America really surprises me anymore. It definitely makes me nervous though. Private citizens facing the threat of government surveillance is never a pleasant idea.

I dont know what people dont understand about this... The left/right think is bullshit. Its all big government, big corporate, big banks, and against the people. MONEY AND POWER. Big government does not help you. It helps itself.....to your shit, whether it be a tangible thing like finances, or an intangible, such as a concept of 'freedom' or 'rights'. Obama is the same as Bush, only worse. Obama came in and fell lock step with Bush's line. Why are people so surprised with this? He's a politician, he told you what you wanted to hear....but it was a lie. What a shocker. The confusion of all the Obama kool aid drinkers makes me sick. "But... he said...." And this economic policy .... F(*K! ...nevermind.
      AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
      VERY frustrating.

He probably got to listen to a few of them and said: "Umm, Ermm, Keep up the good work guys!"

The thing about terrorists is that they don't give a crap about who's president. They just want to advance their backward ass agenda, and they gain support by attacking Americans. With the news today even a small attack would generate huge headlines, and strike fear into the hearts of millions.

Bush made it to the end of his term without another attack on U.S. soil, and you can be damn sure Obama doesn't want one on his watch...

Yah I agree, the left/right thing is created and perpetuated by those truly in power, they do it to polarize us against each other to keep our minds off what is really going on.

Look, the reason Obama went back on yet another campaign promise with this one is A) He realized that it was a necessary program once he was briefed on it, and B) He probbaly had no choice. Nowadays I have joined the camp who believes that there are puppetmasters much higher than the American president who write policy nowadays because they all seem to be doing the same basic thing, whetehr its a hrdcore republican or a super leftist liberal.

Oh cool i didnt think anyone here was into that. I went to one here locally in ventura county, a couple hundred people so not too big but it was still effective I think and surprising even that many came because its a highly liberal dominated area down here in LA.

I feel that this wiretapping is edging in on our rights to privacy. The reason for this is that it is a power that is not easily viewed by the public (it IS the public) and it has large potential for abuse. Although right now it is deemed only for terrorism, the Gov. could potentially use it for any activities it desires. Also, when will the terrorist threat ever end? Are somali pirates terrorists? Korea, Russia, Iran?
I don't want my grandchildren arrested for saying $&#* the government over AIM. Not that itd really come to that... but it IS a potential that would be difficult to avoid once it did happen. With cut and paste they could make you say any damn thing they pleased! There would be no way to speak out against this 'proof.'
I feel that this is a very dangerous power and that we should do something about it. If anyone has any document for the public to sign against this, post it and I will wholeheartedly sign!

Contrary to popular belief, there is no Constitutional guarantee of privacy.

However, I do agree that in American politics, the left and the right are one. Both stand for a melding of fascism and unrestricted capitalism. It would make life a lot simpler for all involved if the two parties simply merged into one. Unfortunately, this will not happen, for the obvious reason that appearances of "democracy" must be maintained.

Same here. They polarize the two parties against each other so they stay busy fighting amongst themselves when in reality the presidents just do that same thing.
