You can't refuse employment to an otherwise-qualified individual based on their extracurricular activities.

I mean, here we are, with a perfect way to enjoy our tobacco in a manner that does not bother or 'endanger' anyone around us...
I know that Alaska Airlines is a nicotine free company. They even screen for nicotine during random drug testing. It is grounds for immediate termination.

        :^O

I could never hang out with a portion user. I hear they eat babies, just like Canadians do. Portion users really are sub human, and I don't understand why they haven't yet been shipped off to the "re-education" camps.
And what, pray tell, is wrong with eating babies?? They taste a lot like chicken.
True, but only if you cook them right!!

The only reasoning I can see here is that they'd be worried someone cooped up in a plane for so long would eventually succumb to a nic fit and light up while in flight.

(Not that any passenger has ever had that urge...)

Still doesn't make the rule fair in the slightest.

I'm sure that by enforcing this policy it brings down the cost of their group health insurance. Other companies and government agencies are now charging "nicotine users" (I didn't say smokers because it seems that most organizations are testing for nicotine, regardless of its source vector) more for their health insurance .
