Experts Warn Internet Is Running Out of Bandwidth

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,518405,00.html

Internet users face regular "brownouts" that will freeze their computers as capacity runs out in cyberspace, according to research to be published later this year.

Experts predict that consumer demand, already growing at 60 percent a year, will start to exceed supply as early as 2010 because of more people working online and the soaring popularity of bandwidth-hungry Web sites such as YouTube and services such as the BBC's iPlayer.

It will initially lead to computers being disrupted and going offline for several minutes at a time. Beginning in 2012, however, PCs and laptops are likely to operate at a much reduced speed, rendering the Internet an "unreliable toy."

    What the ****, over.

Pretty sure this is all hype but maybe the "tubes" really are clogged after all!!!

As a web/graphic designer I have noticed that the community has strayed from optimizing web-sites to the lowest they can possibly get. This was done in the late 90's early 2000 years so people could still view websites with dial-up.

Yah I remember in the 90's everything was optimized and not very graphic intense. Flashy HTML code at best. Now with broadband they can make ebtter more feature/graphic rich websites but it does take a lot of space.

I personally dont think the inernet will or can run out of space

I dunno... The military is getting into IP based communications and they're working on the issue of maintaining an ample amount of bandwidth to support all the stuff they want to do. There are limits to how much bandwidth can be provided with the current infrastructure and it's very feasible to see that amount of bandwidth coming to zero within the near future with the way people are hooking up to the internet more and more.

My question is whether or not the providers will figure it out and start adding to the bandwidth and creating new innovations in streamlining the way it's all delivered for optimal performance. Something tells me not unless they're forced to since new innovations and implementations of such technologies tends to be expensive to start with, despite being better for the long run.

I'm sorry but this just sounds like BS to me. I mean really we can grow human ears on rats but cant make a bigger infrastructure for the internet. It's simple common sense, no bandwith no money for ISP's. They would dump all kinds of money into upgrading to keep getting our money.

This is typical Government propaganda and scare tactics to distract us from what is really going on and panic about something that is not serious. Just like this swine flu crap. You know last year The CDC reported that there was over 13,000 cases of Tuberculosis, and in 2006 there were over 160 deaths. And TB is far more serious then this Swine Flu.

Right.... and the fact that 40Gigabit routers are going commercial this year (and their 100Gbit counterparts too!?) isn't going to help... Being as right now it takes multiple nodes to create that type of pipe? I'm thinking BS. People need to educate themselves and then write papers on meaningful topics instead of fearmongering for a living.

So... in short, they're upgrading the infrastructure as we speak with new stuff. Sweet, so I don't have to worry about jack shit. And maybe COD4 will stop lagging on me.

It is BS. All anyone needs to read in that bullshit article was the last paragraph:

"Telephone companies want to recoup escalating costs by increasing prices for “net hogs” who use more than their share of capacity. "
