Good luck remember to think positive thoughts and remember that the health care workers have probably done a million of the procedure you are going to have. Hope to see you on the forum again soon.

I hate to turn this into a bitch session and this is going to be slightly graphic but I have to get this off my chest...

I suffer from IBS. I have been to the emergency room a few times in my life but I have NEVER been treated like this...

i got there told the check in person what was going on(backed up plumbing to be nice)...the nurse didn't say a word to me other than take your shirt off put the gown on and left...then 2 nurses came in(one actual nurse the other a helper nurse)...she asked me what was wrong and i told her the basic problem...they didn't ask me anything else just to lay on my side...she did the exam extremely roughly to the point it made me cry and told me I had hard ones that were about to come out...then she said she had two options, get them out, or for me to take citrate and fleet, then she just left the room without giving me a chance to respond. A registrar lady then came in basically told me that my condition was not classified as an "emergency" even though I hadn't even been given a chance to tell anybody about the blood, so basically I could pay 150 dollars and be seen by the on call or leave. I asked her if I could speak to the nurse again she said that she would be in in a min, then the check in nurse came back in with NEW PATIANTS!!! He just turned around didn't even say oh..im sorry...then the helping nurse came back in and said we thought you left, we told you what you needed. I then tried to explain to him everything that i've done and the blood and that ive already tried the citrate and fleet and he still wanted to talk to me IN THE HALLWAY! I made him move us to a new room all the while im on the verge of balling...after i told him everything he went and talked to the nurse...she said to take another bottle of citrate and try the fleet again...i dont know what im going to do if this doesnt work again...im sitting on the couch just feeling like crap, worse then when i left

Sorry if that was a bit graphic for some of you guys but I had to get that off my chest and to me you guys are like close friends.

So im sitting here with two portion of thunder in and im seriously about ready to go and get a pack of marlboro reds...not in good shape.

Grrrrr.... I am sorry to hear about that. Just remember that cigs are just a temporary band aid, and won't change or fix your predicament. (sometimes/all of the time) health care workers can be quite rude and tend to think that they know exactly what is going on and what is best for you without even listening to you. Insist that you be heard, accuse them of not taking an adequate history, and tell them you did not take time off from work to get triaged and discharged.

(Disclaimer: I in no way am trying to give medical advice nor am I qualified to do so. Everything I say here on this forum is explicitly for the sole purpose of offering my own opinion as a fellow snuser and should be taken as such.)

Wow, that sounds like one of the most unprofessional organizations I've ever heard of. I'd write a letter of complaint to the managers, and not pay any bills you may receive. I highly doubt the letter writing will do any good, but it might make you feel better, and maybe they'll have a meeting about appropriate patient care.

I hope you feel better soon. I don't have much in the way of advice. Do you think a suppository might help?

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

I have a friend who suffers through what you do. I know from her descriptions just how NOT fun it is.

                  Hang in there.

That was complete and utter BS the way you were treated at the ER! I too suffer from IBS and for those who have never taken it...magnesium citrate is some potent shit! The fact you had drank two and the presence of blood IMHO was indeed an emergency! I know some people abuse the ER due to the fact that they don't have insurance and the nurse probably assumed that this was the case with you. Well health care providers are duty bound to provide care! I would go back and demand to be treated! Keep your head up and I hope all goes well. That hospital should be ashamed to have nurses like that on staff!

The problem is that most ERs contract their physicians and they do not get reimbursed if the visit isn't deemed an emergency.

The problem is the government/insurance reimbursement system. It is going to continue to get worse until the government has it's way and it is nationalized.

I got home last night around 2:00. I went to another hospital. Go figure they did a cat scan and almost admitted me. After running 2 or 3 test they couldnt see anything physically wrong with the lower GI. After doing what they needed to do I was better. Needless to say im a little more than sore this morning but on the whole feeling a lot better. Thanks again for all you guys support. Of course im not one for the sue the bastards act but i tell you what...im thinking bout it.
