Is this truly why healthcare costs so much?

Is this truly why healthcare costs so much in the US or is it partly due to insurance companies or other influences?

Things like that are part of the reason. Also the companies surrounding healthcare are raping it too. Biomedical equipment is totally outrageous.

That's a small part of the reason. Add in sue happy Americans, the uninsured, and insurance bureaucracy for the larger picture.

Two words = majority of cost IMO: Frivolous lawsuits. (I know my spelling sucks) Every time some workers comp claim settles for 5 million or some dr does something wrong and kills someone and gets sued for 10 million these all filter into higher costs because now they have to anticipate these costs, insurance companies do this to.

Second reason: Too big of an insurance beaurocracy, THIS IS WHY SOCIALIZED HEALTHCARE WILL NOT WORK, MAKING A LARGER BEAUROCRACY AND INEVITABLY HAVING RATIONED HEALTHCARE LIKE OTHER COUNTRIES INCLUDING CANADA. In canada there is a 30 month wait for neurosurgery, weeks or months for an MRI.

        **** THAT

In a "perfect" world socialism would be an ideal system. But we all know that as humans there is no such thing as perfect. There is too much greed and corruption for anything socialized to work. I have a friend that moved to the states from canada...according to him, their health care system works if you are in perfect health. Kind of a catch 22! His wife is an RN and the main reason they moved here is because of the outrageous salary difference. Nurses in Canada don't make squat! Our country has too much back scratching between medical professionals and the insurance companies...that is a big reason that rates are so high! I know a lot of people think that Michael Moore is a conspiracy nut, but Sicko is actually a decent flick. It sure opened my eyes!

Lol wow I agree with every single thing you said there, untill the end about Michael Moore. Has he been nominated for biggest deusche in the universe yet? Havn't seen sicko but heard about lots of one sided and faulty information in there that caused a stir after it was released.

Other than that we do need to reform the insurance/doctor moneymaking racket we have going on right now, but socialized healthcare and healthcare rationing is not the right answer, especially at the immense cost to the taxpayer that its going to cost.

Landmines and a electrical fence should fix the problem.

I have to go on record to say that no, I am not a Michael Moore fan, and yes I agree that he's a douce bag! Sicko is the type of movie that you have to keep in mind what type of man made it. What opened my eyes were the personal testimonies. As a person that's always had decent insurance, I kind of took it for granted until I saw the difficulties that others were having. You just never really know how good you have it until you see how bad of a shape others are in!
