Oh yeah... your club's past parallel because you're cocking back your left elbow when your shoulder's under your chin. Been hitting the ball like that since I was about ten years old. Shoulder width apart feels unstable and restrictive... and stack and tilt ****ed me up for a few months. I just get comfortable and hit the ball.

I enjoy working on internal combustion engines and the cars around them.
Blowing up stuff! I put on a pretty darn good show twice a year for my friends. New year's included about 320 artillery shells. Damn, I really need to go shopping...
I've got three cats and a parrot that are awesome.
Work pays me to play with a whole bunch of computers, pbx's, routers, switches, blackberries, T1s, T3s, gigabit metro ethernet (RAWK!), and servers.
And for when everything goes horribly wrong, there is a great shooting range 2 miles from the office
I really enjoy shooting my norinco sks, but ever since we invaded Iraq 7.62x39 has been way too expensive. At least that silly 'assault rifle' ban is no more so I can put my bayonet back on!

Oh I almost forgot. I had the opportunity last year to fly a Piper Cherokee around Lake Michigan for a couple hours. If there is anyone here looking to fund someone's pilot lessons I'm your man!

What normally do you do when you repair computers? I'm studying to get my Comptia A+ Cert.

Why reinstall Windows due to malware infections, of course.

Sometimes the best solution is to wipe the drive and install one of the Linux flavors.

But not everybody likes Linux - for some unfathomable reason people still like their Windoze. I've reinstalled Windows so many times I've forgot how many. Also upgraded systems to a newer version of Windows.

I clean out all the wee beasties (viruses, worms, trojans, etc.) if need be. Sometimes I replace crashed hard drives or optical drives that have bit the dust. I've changed out power supplies, processors, heat sinks, fans etc.. Every single one of the computers I've worked on has needed a good cleaning -- full of dust and crap.

And all for no charge. If somebody paid me, it wouldn't be a hobby and I probably wouldn't enjoy it. I have no certs of any kind, but I've been using computers since the days of punch cards. You pick up a few things along the way.

You are really selling yourself short. My time is valuable and cleaning malware can be a rather intensive process, as im sure you know. I used to do a good bit of 'side work,' but now I only have a few 'clients' that I do work for. I try to exchange trades whenever possible instead of cash. My best client is a massage therapist. He charges $75/hour for a massage. I charge $45/hr minimum for computer work. So a couple hours watching progress bars gets me an awesome massage.
Whenever I do work for pay I really try not to bill by the hour. I can pretty much diagnose a computer in 15 minutes or so and give the client an estimate based on how much of my time it will take to fix the pc.

One steadfast rule I have is I will NOT work on site if the client does not have fast internet. If I am onsite and the job will take more than an hour the pc goes home with me and I will deliver it when it is finished.

One more thing. I don't think I've ever charged more than $100 for labor. If a pc needs parts, I am likely to have used spares on hand and charge a minimal fee for them. I have no problems telling a customer that their computer is not worth my time and that they should buy a new one.

I love hobbies! I love to cook and clean! <--yes, I am thee perfect wife - LOL I also love shopping, especially for new perfume or makeup and getting my hair and nails done. (I really am the perfect wife since I even use my own money to support my hobbies - LOL) When I'm not being all girly, I love to go fishing as long as I don't have to touch the bait or the fish! I also love going to yard sales or estate sales and finding old, cheap, beat up furniture to refinish. Refinishing furniture is not only relaxing, it is so rewarding to see progress as you work. Plus, this is the only hobby I can do outdoors with a respirator on to hide my snus. (I have stupid, nosy neighbors). Maybe not so much hobbies, but I also like to walk my dog and hit up the gym, go to the beach and occassionally check out new movies. Hobbies are fun!

I work on maybe half dozen computers a year, mostly for relatives, friends, and churches. I get repaid by the relatives and friends in various ways. e.g. I repaired my son-in-law's computer and he installed a new heat pump at cost with no fee for labor. Pretty good exchange in my opinion. Others let me buy stuff where they work with their employee discounts. Sometimes it's just advice. It's never a spoken promise or quid pro quo. It's just how friends are friends.

I could never charge a church for anything.

Wholeheartedly agree on the fast internet part. If Windoze needs updates, dialup is a no-go. My other hard and fast rule is you can't watch me work on your computer. Can't give away all my secrets!

Anyone can learn to love Linux! Just have them install Ubuntu and they'll soon be saying "Windows? What's Windows?"

I have found that a lot of people really like SimplyMepis. It's the OS I run on one of my laptops and two of my desktops.
