    The Cure's Greatest Hits

    Huge fan of theirs.
Also into older alt. rock ie. Joy Division, Nick Cave, Iggy Pop, New Order, Soda Stereo (Argentinian version of The Cure)...

Maybe because I was born in the 80's...

That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it

Right now I'm listening to a "greatest hits" compilation of Roy Orbison songs. What a voice that man had... incredible.

Earlier it was a band from Canada called Frog Eyes and their wonderful album called The Golden River. Check them out if you've never heard 'em.

That music is so very powerful, timeless.

If anyone here is a fan of "intelligent" Hip Hop, I highly recommend Aesop Rock (he had a new album come out August 28th). This guy has a way with the english language that is almost magical, and his use of double entendre is mind blowing.

          Recommended Aesop :
None Shall Pass (newest album, very accesable (sp?) by an unfamiliar fan)
          Labor Days (2nd album)
Float (debut, can seem dull and esoteric for the first few listens)
The Daylight EP (has an awesome alternate version of the song "Daylight" from Labor Days called "Nightlight")

          Aesop to avoid :
Bazooka Tooth (a little convoluted and hodge podge)
Fast Cars, Danger, Fire & Knives (an EP from the above sessions)

Lucinda Williams, she's a little out of character for me. I usually listen to some kind of Bop, maybe Mingus, or even Miles' crossover stuff from Bitches Brew and later when I'm in that kind of mood.

                Great thrash-song.

I've been listening to a lot of big band lately. I like pretty much any kind of jazz (except for that new muzaky smooth jazz), celtic, blues, and post rock. I'm not really into heavy music, although I do find Black Metal interesting. I can listen to a track or 2, but it quickly gets tedious for me.

                        markcat:

If you like Sigur Ros, you might also dig Mum (pronounced "moom"). They're also from Iceland and their stuff is incredible.

Right on with the GY!BE. Definitely one of my favorites. You dig on any A Silver Mt. Zion? Check them out if you haven't. Basically a scaled down version of Godspeed with the occasional vocals by Efrim. Excellent stuff.

Your post has inspired me to get out my copy of F#A# (Infinity). Dead Flag Blues is most assuredly one of the most haunting pieces ever put to tape.

I like Mum a lot, as well as A Silver Mount Zion. I'm going to love snusing to all these bands when my initial shipment arrives, which should be anytime now today according to UPS tracking!
