Is he some kind of cartoon character overseas? I was just wondering, I've never heard of it before.

You got my curiosity up, so I googled it and found an article on wikipedia. No reference to snus, but he sounds like a cool little dude! 8)

Snusmumriken is a character in the popular childrens
literary world of "Mumi". (or moomin in Finish, witch is the country of origin)
          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moomin

he is the main characters best friend who stops by the valley were
he lives every summer. The rest of the year he spends traveling.
A mellow and calm character he represents reason and reflection.
Often he gives good advice to Moomin whenever he is in trouble.

I have more of an relationship with the TV-show, not the books.
So the books might portray him more as a playful character.

Moomin is hugely popular in all of the Scandinavian countries.

In Poland Moomins are popular too, but Snusmumriken is called in polish: Wloczykij (eng: Gadabout).

That why I was surprised when I found out that character original name is Snusmumriken.

That show really rocked when I was a little kid, but damn I was scared of that spook/bogeyman/bugbear, what ever you call it in english. :P

Since we are dealing with an international audience. The meaning of "mouth organ" may get lost in translation. Mouth organ = harmonica

He looks like the old fashioned type that would use Ettan Los.
