    Your Favorite Music

I really hope this thread takes off. I would love it if some people posted either or both of two things:

    1) What are you currently listening to?

    2) What are five of your favorite songs? They don't have to be the top goddamn five of all time, but which 5 come to mind? More importantly, what are your current favorites? Just name a few.

One of my favorite things to do is to watch videos online of dead or otherwise inaccessible musicians play amazing songs live. Or I prefer listening to the original recordings. Let 'er rip. I'll start:

Currently listening to: "Been Down Too Long" by Scott H. Biram. This shit is amazing. Go see him. He travels to all (even in Europe) of your towns and keeps American music alive.

    Current top 5?

    1) Satisfied Mind by Jeff Buckley
    2) Woe by Mark Lanegan
    3) Feeling Good or Nobody's Fault But Mine by Nina Simone
    4) Don't Bother Me by Bad Brains
    5) Kiss Me Neck by Lee Perry and the Upsetters

This is no top five, just some of what I'm currently digging. I listen to old music though. Whatever you're into, I just want to know what people are currently listening to. I've tried music threads here before, and they didn't take off. Except that someone who doesn't post anymore sent me 9 rad CDs. If you want to post, cool. If not, as they say deeeeeown undaah, no worries mate.

I love Gordon Lightfoot! Just listened to "Sit Down Young Stranger" this morning on my way into work.

Growing up in the 70's and 80's, I have a big fondness for new wave and 80's alternative. It's hard to nail down my current top 5 songs, as I generally put the Zune on random and let it go for the day.

      Current top 5 songs:

      Royksopp - So Easy
Ryan Adams - Come Pick Me Up
      Mountain Goats - No Children
The Darkness - I Believe in a Thing Called Love
      Kaiser Chiefs - Ruby

But if I were to rank top 5 artists:

      The Smiths
      AC/DC
      Rolling Stones
      The Misfits
      Gordon Lightfoot

A top 5 is tough. I'll throw 5 names down here, but they could change at any time. I'm currently listening to Coleman Hawkins Live in Jamestown NY.

          Top 5...

          Bob Dylan
          Miles Davis
          Duke Ellington
          Sigur Rรณs
Various doo wop, no band in particular

          Edit:
I misread the OP. Here are my current top 5 songs...

          Glenn Miller American Patrol
          Sigur Rรณs Saglopur
          Morphine Scratch
          Morphine Gone For Good
          Duke Ellington Rhapsody In Blue

I'm currently listening to Galveston by Glen Campbell.

A hastily thrown together list of my top five favorites would include these:
                          1. Canadian Railroad Trilogy -- Gordon Lightfoot (wow, three Lightfoot fans in one thread!)
                          2. Too Late for Prayin' -- Gordon Lightfoot
                          3. Happiest Girl in the USA -- Donna Fargo
                          4. Ultravox -- One Small Day
                          5. Ultravox -- Dancing with Tears in My Eyes

But I love almost all music, and cant bear to pass over one great song in favor of another. I'm pretty fond of New Wave 80's and New Romantic stuff (Visage and etc.), but I also love folk music and 60s pop. I can listen to Whitesnake and then pop in Chopin. I just love it all.

Dancing With Tears in My Eyes is an awesome song. I was listening to one of my 80s playlists while driving to Baltimore on Friday and it came on. It's always overlooked when people talk about great songs of the 80s.

Well I know it doesn't follow the guidelines of the OP exactly, but i have my ipod playlist filled with what I consider my "drinking" music.

Just wanted to add a few to my "currently listening to" list.

Bob Dylan, Arlo Guthrie, Jack Johnson, Keaton Simons, Sublime, Long Beach Dub Allstars/Shortbus, Pepper, O.A.R., and Slightly Stoopid
