That sucks. Atreyukun finally got internet so we could play Borderlands and he got Error74, which like the red ring is covered under warranty. I used my PS2 for a DVD player, and ended up having to replace it twice.

btw, Thanks sgreger1 and TsgtTrav for the Borderlands boost. I needed it!

Another example of the XBox's Total Suckage Factor. Why the hell would anyone buy one? I dont get it. There are videos all over youtube about peoples XBox breaking, and they far outnumber the PS3 videos. Also all over the net. Seems like they are pretty much guaranteed to break within the first year or two of owning them......

That is true, but the gaming experience it delivers is worth it. I like my PS3, but they are lacking in games. Can't wait for God of War 3 though!

I think it just depends on the xbox.. I have had my 360 since the day it came out, and I have never had issues with it. Its played on everyday too, mostly COD mw2 and Netflix.

i actually have had my xbox for 3 years with never any issue until now, and i gotta say, its my fault completely. i dont blame microsoft for this one, though they have a ridiculous amount of blunders. i just had it on all the f*cking time, watching dvds, putting on dvds for my kid all day, my roommate plays games while im at work, i come home and play games all night, i mean i just wore the poor bastard out.

IMO no excuse for a 200-300 dollar xbox to break down. Before making advances in graphics and whatnot microsoft should make a damn system that doesn't have so many existing problems. It will most likely same them money in the long run to do so. If playstation and nintendo can do it (not saying those systems don't have issues) then why not microsoft?

That said so far I have only sent in my xbox once for RROD and if it breaks down again I will be further discouraged in my already bad opinion of microsoft. At this point the only reason I play xbox and not other consoles is because my friends are on xbox live...

due to a shitty cold, I've done nothing but hit up fallout 3 on the 360 for the past 3 days and I finally see how incredible the game is. I also have bioshock 2 on preorder, that might be the game to finally convince me to subscribe to live.

Well last gen, the PS2 was plagued with disc read errors while the original xbox didn't really have any issues. Nintendo on the other hand has never really had hardware issues to any extent.

xbox one was huge with massive space for airflow. the big mistake with the 360 imho is the case is to small and prone to overheating there it frys out.

Yea, I think you're right. I still love it though. I'm having my own xbox issues currently. I bought a non Microsoft 120g harddrive that was working fine, but now it doesn't Microsoft told me to re format it, the only issue is it takes forever for me to back up my data. I have like 9 gigs of Rock Band. Oh well, I'm using my 20g for gaming right now, until I can figure out what to do with my Rock Band stuff.

I wonder if anyone has yet tried drilling vent holes in the plastic case, I wonder if that would help...

If you took your time and did it right, im sure you could make it look nice, with custom vent screens etc etc... Or maybe add another small computer fan to the interior?

                              Holy Crap ROFL!!!!!!

I just got back from Wal-Mart, and the freaking display Xbox is sitting there flashing the red ring of death! hahahahahahahahahahahaha

Yeah, Ill go out and buy one right now! NOT!! Peices of freakin CRAP. Unbelievable. I sooooooo wish I had a camera with me.

Although sice you guys said its a heat issue, I wonder if its because its always on, and in the glass display case with the door shut.

And Daruckis, for yours, cant you just buy a new motor for it? Cheaper that buying a whole new unit Im sure. If Microsoft wont sell them, Im sure a TV/DVD repair shop can dig you up one of equivalent size/power. Maybe an option for you...?

                              OOOORR.....

Just buy a new one from wal mart, swap the cases, and return the damn defective one "that you just bought" ?

i dont know a whole lot about putting shit together myself. my buddy though totally did the buy and swap return thing at best buy. im not even entirely sure its the motor, i mean for all i know it might not spin the disc if the lens isnt detecting a disc being there. like i said, dont know anything about anything. i might as well just get it repaired, shouldnt be too expensive.
