Just poured out a pint of Bass Pale Ale, and the whole head of it froze. Me thinks I might need to turn my mini-fridge down a notch...

A friend and I are contemplating brewing some beer over the summer. I'm thinking of either doing an ale, or a stout. Funds permitting, I may do both. Of course, if I brew a stout, I may wind up being the only one drinking it. When I started drinking when I was in high school, I can only remember drinking something other than Guinness a couple of times. That said, I think that's shaped my unusual preference for bitter, bitter stouts. People learned to stop sending me on beer runs in college fast, since I'd grab something I thought was delicious that nobody else could stomach.

Had the noble pils last Thursday. It's definitely got an interesting flavour, but halfway through the six pack, it was starting to wear thin on me. I think if I get it again, it'll be one to only have every once in a while.

70% Pale Malt, 20% Flaked Barley, 10% Roast Barley, mash for 90 at 152F mins and boil for 90 mins with a single hop addition at the start of the boil to get you to 50 IBU. You can pretty much use any hops you like for stout as they are just there for bitterness, not flavour or aroma. Target or Magnum should be easily available and do a good job. Ferment with S04 or US05 dried yeast for 10 days. Leave it to mature if you can....

That'll get you a Stout very similar to Guinness.....but probably much better.

Nothing for a head cold and sore throat like a hot toddy (or several) and a few clicks of GES los. I steeped some lemon peel, cinnamon sticks, whole clove, nutmeg, honey and lemon juice in water over the stove, then added a couple ounces of Wild Turkey. I recommend it to the infirm out there tonight, it's working for me.

Bump because it was on page 2, which is not acceptable. I'm sick again so I went to the bar around the corner from my office, Seattle's first saloon est. 1889, and drank 3 double hot toddies. Thought I would be finished, but bought a pint of Makers on the way home for more hot toddies. Turned out I was too lazy for boiling water and cutting lemons and all that, so it's bourbon on the rocks. Can't tell if I feel better or the whiskey makes me not care if I feel sick.

page 2, not acceptable at all. i got sloshed at the bar last night on tall tanqueray g&ts. it was a good time. the walk home from the bar is always so much better than the walk there.

                        Bump:

Not drunk but working on a soft buzz. My husband went to Shreveport for a food show with my dad and step mom so I am home alone with 3 crazy kids and a horrid cough. I figured the beer would act as cough syrup or as a sleeping aid, either way I win.

Just cooked pizza pasta out of a box for the kids and plan on putting them to bed early so I can watch American Pie 2.

By the way, I vote to sticky this thread it is way to hard to find when I need it(esp after 3 or 4 beers)!

This just gave me the most awesome idea in the world. My husband has been begging me to video him cooking and I won't because he is ALWAYS drunk. I bet if people actually tried his food they would love it....Ahh drunk ideas!
