I see no problem with American beers (Bud, Coors, Miller) for BBQ's, parties, sporting events. But I wouldn't buy them if I'm at home wanting to enjoy a beer. I do love me some High Life though.

My favorite is easily Guinness Draught. Someone mentioned Murphy's - that is spectacular as well. Some of my favorites include:

    NewCastle
    Shiner Bock
Sammy Smith's (Porter, Brown Ale, Oatmeal Stout)
    Negra Modelo
    Guinness Extra Stout
    Old Speckled Hen
    Bodington's
    Belhaven Scottish Ale
    Chimay Grand Reserve
    Young's Double Chocolate Stout

Oh shit, almost forgot about a nice black/tan. I gotta go get some Guinness and Bass.

Here's my suggestions for getting that old sock flavor out of your mouth.

Hoegaarden (white ale from belgium), ANYTHING from Orkney Brewery (Scotland), ALL the Unibroue concoctions (La fin du Monde included), Dogfishhead (particularly Punk, Aprihop, and Raison d'Etre, and Pangea [you'll need to special order that one]), Anything from Kona Brewing Co. (Wailua Wheat is the shit), Rodenbachs Sour Ales.

Damn I miss Dogfishhead, can't get it this far west. If anyone happens to be in the vicinity of Rehoboth Beach, DE, let me know I'll pay good $ to anyone that can successfully send me a 12-pack of Raison d'Etre. While you're there sample the brews that never leave their pub.

Oh yeah. Boddington's Pub Ale is a good one too. Has that cascading waterfall effect when you pour it out, but it's not really dark and bitter like a Guiness or Murphy's. Still has that non-carbonated kind of flavor though. Nummy!

I am assuming that you are joking. I drink almost anything when it comes to beer. I am always looking for a good, cheap buzz, but Steel Reserve?

Most will laugh, but I would much rather have a Magnum or a King Cobra than a Steel Reserve. I suppose that does not mean much. It is like having a 20/20 versus a bottle of Wild Irish Rose. By the way, does WIR do the trick?

BTW, Old Style is what I drank at the nearest pub. They would have great bands at that place. I saw Verve Pipe and Daddy Long Legs there, though most would not recognize the latter and maybe the former as well.

Verve Pipe was good in its day. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Daddy Long Legs play with Wolfpac now?

I do not know if DLL is now part of Wolfpac. My wife and I saw DLL the last time they played at some sort of festival where we got all of their CDs for free. We saw DDL so many times at Club Soda, also where we drank so much Old Style. You from the Zoo area? Also, Wolfpac has piqued my interest. I will have to check them out. DDL, was as good as Verve Pipe if not better. Jimmy was a god, was a god, was a god, was he.

Can anyone recommend or does even know if this type of beer exists?

I have been searching for a beer that uses only real ingredients not corn, rice or additives like the big breweries use.

Definately also trying to a find something that does not have a pale ale, metallic or skunky taste.

In general it seems like most micro brews are either pale ale's or darks and most European imports have that metallic, bitter skunk taste.

East European lagers and bavarian wheat beers are my favorites but even with those I am not sure about whether they use real ingredients.

Buy German lagers. They have stringent rules on what can be used in beer production. You're on your own for brands as I'm not a huge lager fan. I generally buy Becks when I'm in the mood for that type of beer.

This one is extra special for being completely garbage. For one their advertising campaigns focus on the beer being COLD! It's water, and not even good to drink on a hot summer day, yuck!

                              Budweiser?

King of beers, eh, this rice tasting preservative filled goo has so much fizz it makes me burp after every bottle. It's just very, very awful, in every perceivable way...except price?

Don't make me rant about corona, miller, molson, labbatt, and all the other mass produced WASTE of WATER let alone glass.

In closing, life is too short to drink bad beer. Expand your tastebuds and see what the real world has to offer, you'll be pleasantly surprised. Some of my favorites of all time include the original Pilsner Urquell (Czech), and La fin Du Monde (Quebec, Canada)
                              Interesting.

It's a pale ale, but I can't get of enough of Sierra Nevada. I love that beer.

Being a native of Wisconsin, I saw my Dad drink a fair share of Old Style. I have have it on many occasions as you can still find it in Minnesota, it was a decent beer, but nothing special. Leinenkugels makes some nice beers, but I am not sure if it can be found outside of the Midwest.
