I cannot believe that you would even argue that social security is not a failure. People pay into it their whole lives, and pretty soon they will be getting nothing in return because there are less young people paying into the system than there are of old people wanting to collect their SS check. Even democrats agree that SS is in for trouble in the coming years.
And as for why some people support it, is because IT SENDS THEM A CHECK EVERY MONTH. People will go against what they believe if there is monitary gain involved. It does not,however, change the fact that the system is broken and we need to reform or remove it.
