I've got a few Satanic tattoos myself, even though I'm an atheist. They represent my indignation toward the morals of the religions of Yahweh.

        WATCH AND LEARN  :

LaVey was an interesting character, and he made some astute observations about people. The Satanic Bible was a lot of plagiarism, though. He grabbed stuff left and right from Alister Crowely, and I think The Necronomicron, which was a hoax. Some interesting points to his philosophy, but I can't see myself fronting $200 to be declared an official follower of him.

Sometimes the idea of Satanism can be interesting, but a lot of it is misinformation or cartoonish crap. For misinformation, see the inverted pentagram. It originally had no connection with Satanism, some Christian writer wrote that it was a Satanic symbol, and later Satanists adopted it as such. Or the inverted cross. Properly the Petrine Cross, it's actually a pretty holy symbol in Christianity, although I wouldn't recommend wearing one to church. The story from that goes that Saint Peter was to be crucified, and felt the he wasn't worthy of dying in the same manner as Jesus, so they crucified him upside down. Now, mall goths and black metal groups use it as a Satanic symbol.

Which leads to the cartoonish element. Black Metal became ridiculous at some point very near to the beginning of the genre. I like the genre, but sometimes these guys get so serious about it, they don't stop to think, "I'm 25 years old, wearing leather pants, makeup, pseudo-Medieval armour, and holding a battle axe while trying to wear as much satanic jewelry as my neck can take." When bands first did that, it was innovative and edgy. But when you have bands emulating the look of Mayhem from almost 20 years ago, it becomes laughable. I know they aren't trolls who live in the Norwegian mountains and practice black magic, and they know that I know. But they still try so damn hard to look serious and menacing, and you can't help but laugh. Fortunately, more and more of the bands are catching on, but many are still using the kvlt look to hide the fact that their guitarist can't play, their drummer has a seizure every time he sits on the stool, and they only had $50 to record, edit, and master the album on, along with another $20 to makes copies and liner notes.

Shikitohno, I definitely agree with you on your thoughts about Anton Lavey being fraudulent. Apparently, he never worked for the coroner's office in San Francisco, even though he claimed he did!

I'm not a member of the Church of Satan and never plan on joining it. The organization has been known to be sexist and some of the members are Neo-Nazis (ironically enough). However, I view Satan as the opposer to the morals of Abrahamic religions (Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Catholicism etc...).

Anton Levey absolutely plagiarized philosophies. The Satanic Bible was basically filled with the exact ideas of nihilistic philosophers.

I'm an absolute-atheist and I don't support The Church of Satan. However, I believe in most of their philosophies and outlooks on theistic religion.

                P.S.

Its good having intelligent people on this forum!

IMO, Satanism is little more than bizarro-world Christianity. There is no yin without yang, so to speak. Of course Anton Lavey ripped off his religion; it is basically a photo negative of Christianity. The whole "Do what you want, every man for himself, embrace your sins" ideology is obviously very against what most religions believe. If these religions did not exist, Satanism would not exist......which (since I am agnostic) means that I consider it to be null and void.

It IS appealing and interesting in that it does celebrate the true nature of the human race instead of condemning it.

You can't have Christianity without Satanism. I prefer the latter. It make's more sense!

Just a FYI folks. I am really assuming this thread was only started because loser was using my avatar, so wanted folks who weren't paying attention to think I was advocating Satanism.

I'm guessing he didn't figure that a whole bunch of folks would jump up and say Yay Satanism. Gotta love the folks here at Snuson.
