Linux is the way. I use Ubuntu. Makes both Mac and Windows look like shit. Though I might go so far as to say I prefer Mac OS over Windows, if those are the only 2 choices.

I tried out Red Hat, Knoppix, Debian, Mandrake and a slew of others over the years. Ubuntu just rocks.

Even though I have a soft spot for Mac I just started to get tired of paying off a $3000 loan every 3-4 years for a new computer.
My first ever computer I co-owned with a friend. A Mac so old, predates hard drives. All I used those early years on campus as well. Started an alternative paper at Berkeley with friends in 85, everything done with Page Maker on a Mac.

But when I went back to school in 89, I was very poor. Just no way to afford a Mac. Been a happy PC person ever since. To this day, I have an issue using technology closed off from the world by one company. I don't care how good they are, just won't.

I do still remember the day I got my old XT home, and turned it on. Talk about a dumb terminal. Had to run out and buy a DOS book to get anything done.

My pops bought that first desktop mac 2 or whatever back in the early 80s, or mid 80s, and to this day I'm handicapped on a PC. I have 2 computers on my desk at work, we all have macs, but I need a PC for my particular job, and I can barely figure out how to make a new folder on the PC lol. I suck at PCs. Macs have treated me nothing but right for... 23 years or so? Since they came out with that desktop one.

          PC PC PC PC....

I don't like Apple's business practices, and I'm not keen on paying the Apple tax. I run Windows and Linux on various computers, and I doubt I'll ever switch from them.

Macs are definitely more user friendly, but I'm retarded on computers in general, so I'm stupid on Macs.
I'm a PC for idealistic reasons. I love the dark side
And I really dislike the way Mac does things as a company. Being virus free is great, but to me that's like saying "our country is crime free because we shoot anyone suspected of committing a crime."
Yeas that's a silly comparison, but I'm a PC and I don't give a damn
Really I think it all comes down to personal preference and marketing. You're more likely to get laid with a macbook than my old Dell laptop. Or maybe that's just because my room is littered with beer bottles and cigar butts (the snus goes down the john) 8)

Thank you. You saved me some typing.

Besides.... PC is where all the good hardware is anyway. Mac hardware pisses me off.

Not to come to Apples defense here, but has anyone seen the PC Macs they're making these days? I think they finally realized most people think their hardware sucks even though the OS is nice.

Also, did anyone know that it's a violation of the software license to make a hackintosh (non-apple built PC Mac) even if you paid apple for Mac OS?

I am usually for the "underdog", but Apple is in a different category entirely. I think the main issue I have with them is their refusal to make simple, relevant changes to broaden their appeal. They must think of it as conformity, but it seems arrogant to me. It's present in almost all of their products..........batteries you can't remove/replace, applications that force you to pay for/use their software, proprietary file types, unrealistic pricing, etc.

I know Microsoft is guilty of some of these things, but they are also #1 in the market, and they are the industry standard. If Apple loosened up a bit, I think they could really give MS a run for the money.

MS looks like open source compared to Apple :^D

If you're coming from 10.5 there is not going to be much difference. Most of the changes are under the hood. If you're using 10.4 it's a nice upgrade.

The transition and installation was smooth as an Ettan white. That's why I like Macs.

i think it's their desire not to conform to what everyone else is doing and similiar business practices that drew me to apple.

example. i had a pc with a warranty. pc broke. i called the company. about 3 weeks later i had a box. they wanted the defective parts, and i had to remove them myself. (note, i got the most expensive warranty - it was around 95 bucks). i took them out, sent in, and they sent it back a few weeks later, same parts, just "fixed". they went out again a few weeks later. i don't like them, i won't name names, but it rhymes with "Hell" for a reason.

MAC! i'm having part of my laptop chipping where i rest my hands. also, the power cord is going out. i got the 250$ apple care plan. i called them a few days ago, i have a box right now. they said mail it in, they'll fix it and have it back by the end of next week. they are also including an itunes store card for like 50$ and a free mac carrying case as well to make up for this inconvenience.

what else is great about apple care? if your computer ever breaks (which is RARE) for ANY reason, they will send you a brand new mac. even an upgrade. at no additional charge! you almost want to pray for it, it's THAT good. my friend had a 13 MacBook. it broke for some reason, very rare that that does happen, he sent it in. (this is on the 250$ applecare plan, mind you). a week later, he had a brand new MacBook PRO sent out to him, with a letter of apology and no additional charge for the new platform.

apple stands by what they make, and you can't get that integrity with a PC company.
