    Wine ONLY Thread.

I know there is an "alcohol" thread, but I'd love to see a wine thread for anyone big into wine. I'm a wino myself, it's the only thing I drink. I don't get "drunk" off of wine, but I've learned to appreciate it. I love going on vineyard tours in SoCal, and we even have a few vineyards here in Arkansas.

I'd love to hear about your favorite wines, I'm always up for trying anything new.

    1. Irony makes a great Pinot Noir. It's a must in my collection.
    2. Royal Rheingau Vintners Riesling (2004)
    3. My "guilty pleasure" Beringer White Zin (I know it's cheap, but it's a great wine)
    4. Walla Walla Valley/Pepper Bridge Merlot (got on a suggestion from a friend, it's GREAT)
    5. J Vineyards - Pinot Noir/Russian River Valley (2007)

That's my current top 5 in my collection. What are you guys enjoying?

I'm not a big wine fan. When I do get wine, it's usually from a MD vintner. Our wines are pretty good, and I like supporting local artisans.

I love their brand. I order it to my local wine shop all the time. People are starting to pick up on it.

You know you white trash when your:

                ME.

I buy the boxed wine for 10$ and I drink it all in about 2 days.

                Someone beat that?

No but I love good wine, when i go to a restaurant I try different ones out, but it's hit and miss as I am just selecting randomly.

                Any good suggestions?

I'm sure glad Chad started his own thread to whine in.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Oh lord, where do I begin..

I have a second residence on the Michigan lake shore, wine country at it's finest. I have had many good ones from St. Julian, Fenn Valley, and Round Barn among others. Last month I went up to Toronto, and took an excursion to Niagara Falls and the surrounding wine country. Came home with lots of goodies, including two bottles of bonafied ice wine. *licks lips*

The best white I've ever had came from Round Barn Winery, a demi sec. Bought 2 cases and have since been back for more. I normally don't like white but what the hell!!!

I even buy wine at WalMart. WalMart sells a cheap (i mean CHEAP) brand of wine called Oak Leaf which goes for less than $3 a bottle. I didn't expect much, but WOW! Don't bother with any but the Cabernet, it's solid gold. I have served it at parties and passed it off as a very expensive wine. A+++

Red and blue Huron are very poplular with the wife. We usually pick a case up every summer.

I'm cheap. Barefoot Pinot Noir. I also like Wine By Joe. I think it's a local wine.

Really, I am not a wine fan, it gives me heartburn.

But not long ago I bought a bottle of this Sake, that is unrefined, and you have to shake it up, and it's creamy white.

It wasn't too bad, but not something I'd drink regularly.

Discovered the joy of good wine late in college. Anymore, it's all I drink, I actually don't even care much for beer anymore.

Dunno if I'd say I have favorite wineries one more than any other, but in general I like the deep reds..Merlots, Cabernets, etc., and Rieslings. Theres a winery called 'Firelands' in Northwest Ohio that makes a 'Late Autumn Riesling' that's heavenly.

A couple also make 'Ice Wine', where the grapes are frozen before crushing, so that the juice is more concentrated, and the resulting wine is very intense and best drunk in small quantities. Very expensive, but worth the cost.

In fact, if you're ever in Ohio, you should check out some of the vineyards in the Lake Erie/Erie Islands area, especially if you like sweet, non-dry wines like Catawba. Maybe not the kind of quality you'd find in Oregon or Washington, but very good wines for general drinking---especially on warm summer evenings.
