California, why doest thou hateth mine guts?

I got a speeding ticket for going 10 miles over, and apparently california just raised it's rates because the speeding ticket is $420....

$420 for going 10 miles over. I hope this state burns to the ground.

How much are speeding tickets in the states you all live in? In CA it USED to be like $160!!

Any advice on how to beat this somehow, mayb show up to court and hope the cop doesnt show up?

HOLY SHIT! No wonder consumers aren't spending their money; they're paying off ridiculously-priced speeding tickets!

35 Euros for between 16 and 20 km/h over (30 Euros outside of built-up areas).

        Cheers!

I could see maybe $70. But that's just nuts.

Have they no shame! The cops never have done anything for me that I can honestly be thankfull for. I recieve tickets when they pop out from their hiding spots saying "gotcha!" and yet when a real crime happens at my house there is a 30 minute response time IF NOT LONGER, at least in LA.

They are complaining because Cali has cut their funding and now they have to up the prices on every little infraction.

            It's extortion.

it's ALL about money. Chasing a criminal does not pay like giving a speeding ticket does.

I am going to write a letter to the PD that issued this ticket telling them how they are helping ruin the lives of people already suffering financial hardship and going months unemployed due to the recession, and tell them I hope they are proud when they go to bed at nightthat they spent a hard days work robbing and sttealing from other middle class citizens just like them.

Its ones thing if you blatantly breaking the speed limit, but where I live they do this thing where it'll be like 40 mph on a steep hill, then halfway down the hill it changes to 25, and there is a cop LITTERALY hiding in the bushes on a motorcycle waiting to catch you. The one by my house has 4-5 moto-cops posted up all day long, they must write hundreds of tickets a day.

I don't know how it compares to Cali, just been 14 years since I was there.

But here in North Carolina, if you go to court, the DA always offers everyone the same deal. Plead to "9 miles or less" over, and there is NO fine, just $110 court costs, and only counts as one point against my insurance.

Again, maybe Cali is different, but I would do some reading and see if it works similar there.

And FWIW, the fine here for 10 over is like $250.

It appears you were cited for speeding under California vehicle code section 22349. According to the CA uniform bail schedule if this area of the 118 highway near Chatsworth, CA is has a speed limit of 65 mph then the fine will be around $250 to $380. You said you were going over 80 mph so without knowing the exact mph over the limit you were cited for we can only tell you that the uniform fine schedule states that the normal fine for speeding 16 to 25 mph over the limit in a 65 mph zone is $266 and for 26 or more mph over the limit it is $380.
Something don't sound right. $400 for 10mph? Is there something you aren't telling us? Like maybe it was in a school zone or a construction zone where they double the fine?

California does have the highest fines of any state for Speeding. Still, sounds at least $100 higher than what I have read.

No man I swear to god I was on the freeway, no special zones, no nothing. Just going with traffic.

My friend who is a sheriff warned me and said that after a certain date (i forget when it was but earlier in the year) they are doubling the fines for everything. Parking at a meter that runs out of coins is 60$ now as well.

I just think that to ask people to pay this much for a very routine speeding ticket is absolute garbage, this is the kind of price I would expect to pay if I were going 100 or something.

I just got the bill in the mail today, 380 is the fine, and 420 if you want to do traffic school, which of course I have to do because California also has the most expensive car insurance rates.
