Does anyone plan on quitting snus?

A coworker posed me an interesting question last night. I quit smoking with snus. He asked me, "Well, now that you quit smoking, are you going to try and quit snus?" I laughed, and immediately responded, "No!" What are your thoughts on this?

NEVER!!!!!!!!!!! I hate myself, the world, the universe without nicotine. I'm comfortable knowing I'm an addict.

Untill I find out that there are negative health effects that put me in seriouse risk of injury or illness, than no I have no intention of quitting.

My wife asks me that question often ops:

Unless for some health reason I have too, then no. I told my doc I quit smoking about it and she said "so now your gonna quit snus?" She had no idea what it was, I tried explaining health benefits and risks and what Ive read up on and all that and she just said, well any tobacco use is bad, and just kept putting it in the same league as chew and dip so I just said yeah I'll work on it.

I mean I finally just started to nail down some favorites and Ive started considering it almost a hobby with all the flavors and what not. Im trying to think of a project I can do with empty tins.

Unless some health threat comes out we don't already know about, No.

It makes about as much sense as asking someone if they plan on giving up chewing gum.

If I did give up snus I would more than likely eat more food and be overweight. So anything I would gain by giving up nicotine would have to be balanced against the negatives of being overweight.

Of course not. Snus is too enjoyable to bother quitting :^)

You forgot a "WTF" option on your poll.

No...unless they come out with a huge study where it's proven by someone OTHER than the American tobacco or EU tobacco industry that snus is harmful.

Exactly, snus is just enough to get me through my day. If I didn't snus I would have to find something else because that is how I am, I need external stimulation to be happy. It sucks but it's who I am.

Would just start eating more myself, which is arguably worse than anything minor amounts of nicotene can do to you.

I enjoy snus and use it all the time. I think I'd still use it even if it was found to be bad for you. The only reason I'd quit, is if it was no longer available, or for whatever reason I just didn't enjoy it anymore.

No, at lest not until I find a substitute treatment for my ADHD. And even then, probably not.

Only thing that could change that is if BP ever got out of control.

I have read everything ever written science wise. I am comfortable with what little risk I believe I am taking.

Now taxes ever make snus $100 a can, ask me again then.

There are times I think about it, and other times that I feel like I actually *could* if I wanted to, but my answer is most likely 'No'.

I've finally thrown the Camel off my back, and it seems like(knock on wood)I did so before it did my lungs any very serious damage. With the help of snus, I've gotten my addiction to a point where it is very manageable...it sucks if I don't have it, but I don't feel like I might die.

And, where I didn't enjoy smoking at all after about 10 years of it, I really do enjoy snus. Along with nasal snuff, it's just a very laid-back enjoyable way to use tobacco.

Like Sage and some others, if I were to develop high blood pressure or cardiac trouble that contraindicated stimulants, then I would probably give it up. Otherwise, I don't see why I should.

You'll have to pry my snus from my cold dead mouth.

I was thinking about giving up the Copenhagen habit and thought snus
would be a good idea as the nicotine levels are pretty controlled. Thought
I could start strong then work my way down to mini's, and then stop.

Three reasons I now have for not stopping:

                              1. Nicotine is the only compound I've found that helps me manage PTSD.
Has none of the side effects of the drugs they push and snus is
                              relatively safe.

                              2. Whereas before all I had was Copenhagen and everything else tasted
like crap, I now have tons of crazy concoctions to pick from. Most
are pretty good and many far exceed Copenhagen. Who would have
                              thunk?

                              3. If I stop snus I'll have to give up snuson.com. Where else can I find
a forum loaded with the kind of people with the forbearance and good
humor to put up with my mildly demented / somewhat twisted
                              "flying-mammal" persona.

                              4. Bonus Reason: When I came up with the "Box Pass Challenge" I never
thought there was any wack-jobs like me who would actually think
this was a good idea. It gives me the warm-fuzzies I tell you.
(or perhaps that's just the psoriasis acting up)

                              Bat
