Personally, I think the maker plays a very major role when it comes to the knife's value. Not all knife makers can create a good knife out of a good steel.

I'm not big on weapons, but I have an 11" Frank Beltrame rosewood stiletto that I enjoy.

I'm lucky, I got two 42s. However, I'm clumsy as hell. I can do a few tricks with my right hand, even a rollover or two, but my left hand doesn't go beyond basic openings etc. So I have one of the two out to play with, and the other sitting in its box for the collection.

If, like Chad, you're interested in getting a BM42, I suggest you get one NOW. They're out of production (EDIT: According to the BM website, they DO still make them, not sure which is accurate), not sure if Benchmade will bring them back. So chances are, the prices will keep going up.

As for which my favorite folder is... I'd have to go with the Benchmande Griptilian. It's neither the prettiest nor the best knife I own, but it's the one I use most. If I were to go on "coolness" only, I'd have to pick the Infidel though. SOG TAC Auto (correct name escapes me atm) is a nice second in coolness.

I'm mostly into fixed blades. But two of my EDC knives are folders.

Great choice for an EDC indeed.

As for Spyderco, I can't fault them really, I have a milltary and it's a very nice knife, but despite being functional and well-made, I just can't get over the goofy looks that most Spydercos have.

I'd like to take the opportunity to recommend both of these guys:

            Nutnfancy: http://www.youtube.com/user/nutnfancy?blend=1&ob=4

            Cutlerylover: http://www.youtube.com/user/cutlerylover?blend=1&ob=4

Both of these guys do some excellent knife-reviews and I can recommend most of their videos on other subjects (guns, flashlights and other tactical gear).

yeah sorry for that gargantuan picture...It's not the prettiest knife, but it is brilliantly crafted. A nice piece for sure.

Smith & Wesson M&P MAGIC MP5 Assisted 3.5" Combo Blade, Black Handle, Window Breaker

Made in China; however, works very similar to a switch blade. And... it looks very cool!

Down where my Dad lives in Tennessee there is a knife maker that made the largest folding knife in the world. though I don't collect knives, they can definitely be art. I used to collect swords.

Can you make a canned Spam for me? I like that kind of knife.
