4. Johnny Cash (the ORIGINAL outlaw)
5. The Oak Ridge Boys
.....okay, just kidding about #5.
Not one of my top 5 but I actually do like the Oak Ridge boys. Of course, I am old enough to remember when they were strictly a Gospel group. They have some good songs over the years, Gospel and country.
Now concerning old Johnny, I actually have his old Folsum Prison album from my dad's collection. When Snoop Dog says you are cool, you are cool.
Now to my favs.
1. ZZ Top
2. Aerosmith
3. Lynyrd Skynyrd
4. Huey Lewis
5. Nickelback
Only maybe ten percent of my listening is devoted to BANDS anymore. The others in the Day Room always complain when I play my Walkman too loud. I HEAR YOU, STUBBY2!
That said – these bands have been my five faves since I moved here to Sunnyside Village:
Skeletons a/k/a The Morrells. One-stop shopping for all your bar band needs. From down SPRINGG-field way. Every blessed member ever a Tragically Unsung Virtuoso and scholar. Except maybe Maralie. Ah, hell, ESPECIALLY Maralie! Also D. Clinton Thompson.
The Turtles. The only Sixties band that still matters. Or, anyway, I used to bump into Howard Kaylan at the video store on South Grand all the time. And by ‘The Turtles’ I mean ‘The Mothers of Invention.’
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, DAMMIT. These guys ought to be big. Dammit, they NEED to be big. Little Joanie Larkin deserves more than just a nice retirement nestegg and sainthood.
Brave Combo (now with more Little Jack Melody [of And His Young Turks fame]). What can I do? My wife practically grew up in the Turner Hall out by Hecker.
Les Negresses Vertes. What can I say? I practically grew up among dirty gypsies. R.I.P., Helno.
