I guess I must be showing my age but I like to be sitting in the same room as the people I'm gaming with

Having said that, I know there are some programmes which can replicate the table top experience quite well, screen monkey for example.

I just bought a new RPG today, CthulhuTech. It's a strange cross between Call of Cthulhu and Battlemech. Manga style technology and unspeakable horrors! I've just started reading it and it looks good so far.

I spend a good amount of my free time on-line playing free tower defense games. I am an uber tower defense guru.

Plus xbox live arcade just released one really good one (I forget the name) and south park tower defense play. Sometimes the simple games are the most fun.

I certainly did. I enjoyed battles in urban environments but anywhere was good really. I liked the heat rules in that game. First thing people used to do was head for water to combat over heating.

            One of FASA's finest games.

They need to remake that shit for the 360 or something, I would buy that for sure.
Jump jets were sweeet. I remember how unbelievably choppy multiplayer used to be, good old dial up modems were horrible.

Don't ask me silly questions, I won't play silly games. I'm just a simple choo choo train and my name is Blaine the Pain.

WoW all the way baby. =)

No really, I have a big bag of dice stored away somewhere. What turned me off to them is that most of the people that play those games get kinda obsessed and talk about them all the time. I think they are the most mentally stimulating games, and could be great for kids. But, it seems they only really interest people who have social problems and would rather live through a fantasy.

I've got to agree with you there. I've met people who are completely consumed by the hobby and will say or do little associated with anything else. We call them "frothers." These types are usually socially isolated and awkward but intellectually very sharp and creative. I accept them as part of my hobby's landscape and, whenever I meet one, I try to share their obsessive enthusiasm for their 30th level Ranger (or whatever...) Thankfully I don't fall into that camp and have a life.

Luckily the group I game with are all pretty down to earth types like me who take gaming for what it is, a bit of a laugh.

I think role players may be a bit more normal outside the United States. I see you are in London and I used to play with a group of Germans who where mostly normal.

I've met and played with a couple of American gamers and found them to be nice guys on the whole (except one of them borrowed a rules book from me and then promptly returned to the states, never to be seen again.)

I guess there's an obsessive, lunatic fringe in every hobby or interest. Even in the use of snus for example....
