Ha...I was out of OD 550...that was my first choice. I had enough for half..... I might go get some more, it only took me 5 minutes to do the whipping, so...

To add some substance and stop hijacking, I will say that in GA, if you are reported in an instance of domestic violence, you are not allowed to buy a firearm until that is cleared up, and I THINK THAT IS WRONG. UNCONSTITUTIONAL. I know why they do it, but....UNCONSTITUTIONAL..IMHO

I was pretty sure it was a fed law, but I know for a fact it is in GA... because, well...it's my job. I don't dabble much in DV, but its a stupid law.

Holy shit...I've been living here for 24 years and I never knew VA was an open carry state. Hell, I've been afraid to carry it unloaded, safetied, and locked in the gun box in my passenger seat!

I do need to get me a permit at some point so I can conceal as well. It's reassuring having a gun at your side, that's for damn sure.

bazzah, sadly you sound like a typical liberal who wishes to ban things they don't even have an understanding of. A legal ak-47 is semi-automatic. It's nothing more than a rifle. Full auto weapons require a federal tax stamp and some paperwork. Even so, an AK 47 would not be considered a "sub machine gun." Please educate yourself before making these statements. Thanks.
I admit that I haven't researched into the AK-47 topic. My current AK-47 research is limited to Counter Strike (I always preferred the 3-burst shot to the full auto, however). All kidding aside, I will be researching this before I finish my paper as I think it could be a huge issue. That's a gross generalization to slam liberals as being people who make uneducated decisions. This happens on both sides far too frequently! *insert witty political jab come-back*

wa3zrm thanks for the links! I had no idea how cheaply you could get a CCW ($25 here in california). Thanks, these links really broaden the scope of my paper (pun intended).

Concealed weapons seems much more controversial than merely the right to own a firearm. Any opinions on that? Do carrying firearms in public increase or decrease personal and societal safety? I need to do much more research on it myself before I've formed my own opinion.

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Yah Megan's law says you can't operate or own a firearm if you've been involved in domestic violence. Even in the army if you have gotten in trouble for beating your wife or something you may not carry a firearm, even in Iraq. Although, that rule is often broken. It is more than rediulous.

I am very very pro gun, but I also believe that in order to own a gun you should have to take a safety course, too many stupid people in America which are the result of years and years of gun control that have made gun operation/safety/maintenance obsolete in most people's minds.

I live in CA, arguably one fo the most Nazi states when it comes to guns. Even though you may legally open carry here, with ammo and magazine seperated from gun, they will still put you in jail for it even though you are blatantly not breaking any law. This is why we have the type of violence we see in Los Angeles especially, punk ass little gang members think it's cool when they rob their first convenience store at 15 and know they will get away from it because they have a gun and that makes them God.

If we were all allowed to conceal carry, or open carry at least, this epidemic would stop.

Sweet ****ing rifle. I always loved my EO TECH when i had one, good for anything short of 300 meters.
I have been wanting to build myself an Ar-15 but it is so hard to do in CA, and even if I wanted too it is a little bit above my pay grade at the moment since I have some other bs to pay for at the moment.

                          I hope California Burns

Wooooooo there pony, hold up. You cannot get a CCW permit in California. Not unless you are a celebrity or professional bodyguard or peace officer.

The law states that you can apply for one but must prove your need for it. The well known reality is that no citizen will obtain a CCW permit unless in one of the catagories above.

I live in CA and have fought tooth and nail to obtain a CCW, it will never happen. Even though this is an open carry state you will go to jail if you openly carry a firearm, even if unloaded.

This is the most ass backwards state in the union. And the least constitutional. Our politicians, citizens and police force reutinely piss all over our rights, particularly those pertaining to the 2nd ammendment. I mean we live in a state where there is a massive and I mean massive amount of gays, and we just ammended the cali constitution with prop 8 to ban gay marriage. We can never do anything right here.
