This is not something to be taken lightly unless you want to start looking like gentlemanly too.

Thanks for the kind words guys. As far as how it feels.....well the one thing that is different is that it goes straight for the lungs. I went from no cough Sat. night, to unproductive cough and sore throat Sunday, to coughing up thick green lung butter this morning, really quick. Pounding headaches, aching joints/muscles, nausea, and constant mid-grade fever. It really wipes you out.

I'm just getting over the flu. I don't know if it is the H1N1 or not, although I know that I was recently on a cruise and started getting symptoms back in june and they went away.
I was on the verge of puking for a day and a half and been sickly for the past 4 days, however I haven't been bed ridden (either time).
            My remedies:

            Very little food
Food/drink: Oranges/OJ mostly(Vit-C). Green peppers(vit-C). Coconut juice for hydration (works great, careful of the sugary brands). Garlic! (3+ raw cloves a day;anti-viral/bacterial) Lots of green tea (anti-viral).

            Vitamins: Echinacea (1200 2-3x daily), vit-C (500 4x daily), 1 Emergen-C immune booster a day, Nature's Way-System Well Ulitmate Immunity (1-2x a day)

The System Well may be expensive, I don't remember the price. Use a multi-vitamin instead if you want.

Sleep as often as you can! Naps here and there are good.

My housemate also got this flu and was pretty bed-ridden and puking all over the place; minus the drinking, my housemate is in way better shape and much healthier than I am. Thus the vitamins help quite a bit. Stay away from alcohol, sugar, tobacco, coffee, etc. I know everyone says that, but staying away from those things make a huge difference! Yea, it does suck, but so does being sick. The faster you are better, the faster you can get back to the vices!

EDIT: for the garlic cloves: swallowing them whole works just as well as chewing. Thus you avoid the taste and breath. remember to pick smaller ones or cut them into smaller pieces. Don't smash them first as they can lodge in your throat, I found this out the hard way! damn, it was painful!

Oh and your wife/kids should probably start taking whatever vitamins they can now!

No vaccination for me. The way I see it, it would be a week, paid vacation from work & more time for browsing snuson. The flu is terrible and all, but I try to see the silver lining in everything.

I was told you actually have to chew them or crush them in your mouth to release the good stuff. Just like muddling mint makes a Mojito.

I know that crushing them helps bring out the flavor in cooking... it may help release the good stuff as well. I'm not really sure if it is more effective, I always do it raw and it seems to work just fine. My girlfriend who works in a healthfood store is of the opinion that it works just the same, but I admit I have no evidence other than good faith. Either way, I'd rather get passed the flavor than anything!

I believe garlic has some antibacterial/antiseptic properties and at least for colds the virus is centered in the throat so part of the use is to coat the throat with garlic.

I gotta tell you, piggy sickness sounds a hell of a lot less scary than swine flu. I like it!

Hope you feel better but don't let the media hype scare you. The percentage of people who are admitted to hospitals for the flu and die is something like three times greater than the same statistic for H1N1.

Early on, when ISTR the media referring to it as a hybrid of swine flu and bird flu, I really expected "flying pig flu" to catch on.
