I have been setting a little money aside and am considering an array of different things to invest it in. I only have a couple thousand to start off with but was wondering if anyone here is an experienced investor?

I have been trying to read and soak up any info I can on it over the past few months but was wondering if anyone here invested, and if so, in what do you invest?

While I have some stock, annunities, IRA, they are ok but in times like this you can lose it too. I have some real estate that I rent out. No matter what happens to the economy I know that my homes will always be there. Rent doesn't ever go down so its pretty hard to lose $. Start small if you have to, but START. If you don't get started somewhere it will never happen.

I invested in these parrots long ago and it was one of the best investments I could have made. It gives me something to do in my old age and makes me decent $.

Lol, yah I have small amount of money, and i'm only 23 so I have some playing room, plus if the money got lost it wouldn't kill, me. I just need some experience in what does/doesn't work, what I will see a return on investment on and what are the losers.


Right now I am not worried about long term retirement based investing, I have other less risky things like a 401k (which even that loses money nowaadays) for retirement, I am looking for just some short term and possibly high risk/payout investments just to get my feet wet and get some experience.

I wish I had enough money to buy up some real estate, especially some of these foreclosures. Your right, rent never goes down really and can be a consistent stream of income, but you have to have enough capital to be able to buy the house first, which I don't


Any book or reading reccomendations?

Yea I just noticed that you are in Calipornia. The real estate is stupidly high priced there.

Maybe you could invest in cardboard boxes. It won't be long before everyone loses their homes and you can rent the boxes out. That'd be a cheap investment. Get the wax coated boxes as they last longer.

Tex, you can find some cheap trailers in Ga. But there probably are any near that cheap in Cali. The real estate markets between the 2 states couldn't be any more different. A normal home in Ga would be about $100,000. The exact same home in Cali would be about $260,000. Crazy but true.

Buy Gold

While I am in the works of trying to purchase some junk silver and maybe gold (it's over-priced because of hype right now) that is only a maintaining the value of my dollar thing. not really any long term money to be made in gold.

If I would have bought a bunch of gold in 2006 and then sold it now I could have made a profit but these high prices will go down as the economy recovers.

true didnt think about that back in texas a few years back i found a house that was 4 bedrooms 2 bathrooms for 59,000 same one in GA is anywhere from 124,000 to 200,000

but he could look at one bedroom houses and check the prices even if it isnt in his exact location he could find a cheap place to start with

You're not going to make more than a few bucks investing in big name stocks like McDonalds or Exxon. My suggestion? Seek out a few companies who've just been listed, shares dirt cheap, and have a whole hell of a lot of promise. Do your research! Seek out a broker, even. They can give you good tips (for a fee). Put some bucks into the company you decide is most promising, and watch that stock like a hawk. I made a good chunk of change on California Pizza Kitchen this spring. Was the hottest restaurant investment of the summer. Right now, if you're patient, green energy is going to lead the future, so why not invest now? Consider all the people who invested in Apple in the 1980s. They are MILLIONAIRES now. It just takes time. Hell, even Ford is worth a try. They just reported their first North American profit in YEARS. Check it out! Jumped 58 cents to 7.58 a share at close today. Lost over half of that in afters hours, but hell :lol:

Try it out, just leave some padding in case whatever you buy into shits the bed.

4 bedroom houses all start around 600-800k in any decent area of CA.

My mom makes 93k a year and can't afford a 2 bedroom house because they are still 400-500k in semi bad neighborhoods around here.

Kalifornia is the most ****ed up ass backwords, constitution hating state in the union. It's run by filthy liberals and corrupt republicans who let the liberals run amok of our fiscal policy. No one can save this place, I only wish my wife would let us move out of here.
