    the pre-and-post thanksgiving day thread

    with pics!!!!

i mean, as soon as the holiday comes round and the table gets set.

so far, i'm pretty excited to get a whopping 2.5 days off of college to go home, set up the tree, and eat non-frozen food. my mom already planned the menu, and she told me she had some bread cubes drying out for the stuffing already

my mom is a bit of a traditionalist, and so we are having things like turkey, yams, dressing, pumpkin pie, and cranberry sauce. my dad has a pretty extensive ethnic background, and he added kielbasa, pierogi, and saurkraut to the list. it's true, we never go a holiday without sausage.

my dad makes cranberry wine every year, and this is only the second year that i can legally enjoy it!

it's always interesting to me how much the holidays have changed year to year as i get older. when i was a little kid, thanksgiving was about watching the parade and eating until you couldn't anymore then taking long naps. now, i enjoy being in the kitchen, and sometimes even push my parents out so i can fuss over things instead!

with all the craziness that goes on in life, i feel lucky that i can always go home.

so what are you eating this year? where are you going? who are you eating with? and what else are you going to do besides overeat?

Holidays do change when you get older, for me anyway. As a kid we always had the extended family over, and it was a big thing. Now, the only good thing about it is being off work.

It will be steak and shrimp on the grill this year -

after years of doing the turkey and all the trimmings, and no one in the house really liking turkey we decided "Hey lets do Sirloin on the Grill" and "some grilled shrimp too, we can even grill some sweet potatoes"

I'm very excited this year...pic to follow on Thursday

Sounds great! I don't mind turkey once a year. Steak and shrimp once a week!

BTW, welcome to the forums! I see you are a NASCAR fan. We need to stick together since one of the mods here has voiced his dislike of Nascar [sic].

We are waiting for my Dad to come up on Saturday. We have already bought all of the traditional things for the meal.

I'm excited about a 4 day weekend. Other than that I could care less about Thanksgiving.

I took tomorrow off, so it's 5 days off for me. That's the best thing. Thursday we are gonna go to my wife's cousins house and pig out.

I absolutely hate holidays. I don't like to cook for a bunch of people, I don't like going to the in-laws', I don't even like going to my own family's house during the holidays. I don't understand why it can't just be each little family stay in there on house and cook there own damn meal for Thanksgiving and Christmas. But I'm just venting, I can't stand my in-laws and guess where we are going this year?

At least you are going someplace, I am utterly and completely alone this Thanksgiving.

Damn Sage! You can come here if you want. It is probably 3-4 hours away from where you are, but in NC nonetheless.

Thank you snuppy. If I had my bike back, I would probably take you up on it!!! Last year, I rode to Henderson to have thanksgiving with a friend from my bike board's family. But alas, bike not fixed yet, don't think my scooter will work for that.

And srhoades2talk, I know. Means more to me than you might realize.

At least I won't be alone this year for Christmas, renting a car and going to see a friend out of state then so neither of us have to spend Christmas alone.

that's how most of our holidays have been, small with just immediate family. both of my parents are in medicine and work odd hours or take call, and we rarely get a holiday where they are both off. as a kid, it used to make me sad, but this year i still get to see extended family over the weekend, just not for the day. i think i like it better this way.

living alone has made me desire to cook for people more often, lol.
