    Introduction Thread?

If this belongs in another category (or doesn't belong in the forum at all), apologies in advance.

Hi to everyone here! Figured it'd be proper to introduce myself and get a chance to meet some of the regulars here.

(Warning: boring "how i discovered snus" story below)
I'm very new to snus! I live in the south and I've been dipping American tobaccos since I was 16 or so. Shame on me, right? :P I'd been hearing about this "snus" thing on the forum SMPost (a dipping forum) for a while, and I kept putting off trying it out. Well, recently I saw the promotional advertisement for the General free sample. What better way to try snus than freely?

To keep it short, I fell in love. The mild, yet complex flavor was captivating. It made me realize how overpowering (and often, sickeningly sweet) American tobacco's flavoring can be. Plus, the lure of "anytime, anywhere" is too great to resist! I think I will come to appreciate a good snus more and more as time goes by.. but for now, I begin my quest to try them all and find my favorites.

Again, sorry if this kind of post doesn't belong in this category, or isn't welcomed here.

Hi, and welcome. I don't think we have an introduction sticky. Glad you found snus and like it. I think I started it Feburary. I prefer non-sweet bold flavors. I've posted a few times on smpost, but I never got into dip. If I dip anything, it'll be Scotch Snuffs.

      Welcome to SnusOn Wintergreen!

I dipped Skoal a million years ago, but I wasn't really into it long, and it made me despise the flavor wintergreen(sorry :^D). I like snus because the flavors are more refined, and have a more natural taste(though they all aren't).

Enjoy your stay, and enjoy the tasting adventure :^)

Don't worry, I'm not really a WG fan. It's just an old nickname from dipping it so much. General Wintergreen made me sick, I thought it was absolutely awful.

Hey Winter, I was the same as you, I dipped for years only to stumble across snus on a forum one time and was like "wait, something has to be wrong, it's too good to be true"... no spitting? Long lasting flavor, more variety, discreetness, variable nicotene levels???

Since then i've been living the dream. Welcome to the forum, and it's normal for people to post when they first join our community so don't sweat it.

Edit: I still hit up the Copenhagen every now and again though, for nastalgia of course.

Yeah, although snus is amazing and there is a lot to complain about with regular American snuffs, I still get the feeling I'll have the occasional pinch long after I become a regular snuser.

But snus really did sound too good to be true. The free sample from General proved my skepticism wrong, though, of course.

Hey Wintergreen, I already said welcome in your Box thread. But when I found snus almost three years ago, I found right after and occasionally participated there for 6 months. But it was a terrible snus forum, and one day, someone there mentioned Snuson, I checked it out, and haven't looked back yet.

Know, that the first two weeks of using Swedish snus are not the best. All you really taste at first is the salt. Take a body between a week and two weeks to get acclimated to the salt. Once it does, you will begin to really taste the snus as it is.

Your plan sounds wise, you seem to already having yourself going in a good direction. Enjoy the ride.

One other thing to mention here. Don't assume your first reaction on any snus will be your last. Very, very common phenomenon here id for someone to try a snus, really dislike it, only to come back to it a few months later and discover they now love it. So standard newbie advice.... If you try a snus and dislike it, do not throw it away!!! Stick it in the fridge, then come back to it in a few weeks. Still don't like it, put it away and try it three months later. You will be shocked at how many snus now taste really good to you.

On a similar vein, if you try a snus and just absolutely love it, do not start just using that snus. specuiially the first year, it is also common for folks to burn themselves out on snus they thought they just loved. So even if you really like something, keep using pother snus with itt. My first 18 mopnths, I made it a point to always be using abouit 20 different snus.

Yes, today, almost three years later, I am happy using only about 2 snus 80% of the time. But I didn't really narrow down my use until 2 years after I started.

I intend to save every snus I don't like until a later date to try them again, that's for certain.

But I'll pass on trying out General WG again. It really did make me sick.

LOL, yes, there are always a few exceptions. Catch Eucalyptus was one of mine. But years later, I even tried Level again. And you know what?? Not nearly as terrible as I remembered it. Oh sure, still really bad. But just not as terrible bad as I remembered.

Like Sage said, dont discount any snus yet. General Wintergreen made me ill the first time too. Gave me massive hiccups, and made me green in the gills. I thought it was the most vile thing I ever put in my mouth.

Then it sat in the freezer for a couple weeks, while I tried all my other types of snus. When I came back to it, it was like "hmm, this is actually not bad."

Now, its my number one all day every day snus. I still order and have on hand many, many different types at any given time, but General Wintergreen is the only one I absolutely CRAVE the flavor of. Its my crack in a can. Without it as an option, Id be hurtin'. I could use it , and it alone if I had to. I HAVE to have it. So that shows you what Sage said is the truth. Any snus you dont like, throw in the freezer for awhile, and when you come back to it, it just might become your favorite. 8)

LOL, so let me tell my Wintergreen story. New one too.

I also though the wintergreen was just a disgusting snus. But last week, I knew I had a general white can in the freezer, figured just finish it off. Not a favorite but not really bad. So I am heading to the shop, go to the freezer, and grab the can.

A few hours later I am at the shop and pop one in. But soon, I can tell it is tasting strange. Something not right, like it accidentally got flavored. Then I realized, no, it is wintergreen. So I look at the can for 5 minutes before i see the tiny wintergreen on the lable. ^%$%^ Swedish Match I thought.

But you know what?? The wintergreen wasn't half bad. And I normally hate all mint snus. So I had another. Even had a third. Since then, it is sitting open by my bed, and I have reached for it a few times. Still probably wouldn't buy it.......much. But it really is quite tasty. Shocked that I have come to sort of like it.

And me with 3 years in, tastes still surprising me sometimes. That is just the way of the snus.

                          Welcome to SnusOn, Wintergreen!

I like General Wintergreen, but I'm a little weird. Can't stand mint, love wintergreen... but not Thunder wintergreen, yuck.

Hahaha. Well glad to know that some people out there like it at least. I can't see myself ever liking it, even if I do develop different tastes.
