Odd Event In Norway- What is it?

A mysterious light display appearing over Norway last night has left thousands of residents in the north of the country baffled.

The phenomenon began when what appeared to be a blue light seemed to soar up from behind a mountain. It stopped mid-air, then began to circulate.

Within seconds a giant spiral had covered the entire sky. Then a green-blue beam of light shot out from its centre - lasting for ten to twelve minutes before disappearing completely.

The Norwegian Meteorological Institute was flooded with telephone calls after the light storm - which astronomers have said did not appear to have been connected to the aurora, or Northern Lights, so common in that area of the world.

The mystery deepened tonight as Russia denied it had been conducting missile tests in the area.

Wtf do you think this was? Being the American that I am, I figure it probably was some kind of missile from Russia that they are not disclosing, but still look at how perfect that spiral is? It shoots from behind a mountain, then starts making an intricate spiral that almost looks 3d, and then after 12 minutes a light shoots out from the center of it and it dissapears.

What do you guys think this was?

    Further contributions:

Norwegian astronomers and meteorologists baffled and not aware of any astronomic or meteorologic phenomenon that might cause this shiate.

    Nearby rocket facilities:
    Andøya has no launches planned.
    Kiruna has no laucnhes planned.

Russian Northern Fleet Commands denies any ICBM test launches.
Vladimir Isupov, press attaché at the Russian has nothing to report, and isn't aware of any ongoing activity that might have caused this.

        Those wacky communists... :^D

I'm no, erm... rocket scientist :^P, but I can't imagine what kind of conventional weapon or nuke would cause something like that. I'll be interested in hearing what the scientists make of it.

          Lol. I had that coming.

          Better one would have been:

OBAMA'S IN NORWAY TOMORROW TO RECEIVE HIS NOBEL PRIZE

          Coincidence?
^^^ Someone actually posted that on a forum.

But seriousely if this is a rocket it makes for one awesome photo opp. I didn't even believe it when i read it in the daily mail, but there are a bunch of Norweigan websites with people who have camera phone pics and stuff so it obviousely happened. Probably those damn Ruskies.

Yah right now they are having a collective "WTF" moment since they can't explain it naturally. We have a lot of sattelites watching this area since it is the gateway to the arctic so i'm sure someone knows whats going on. Probably some weapons test gone wrong. Still, it's so intricate and perfectly simetrical, harldy what one normally sees when rockets explode.

Update: Probably a failed missile launch

Interviewed by the Norwegian TV2, an anonymous Russian military source says it was failed launch of a Bulava missile from a submarine in the White Sea Wednesday morning.
The missile has probably come out of control and exploded. The peculiar spiral shaped light pattern comes from reflection of the sun in the leaking fuel, he said to Aftenposten.

              - It is quite normal that Russia uses the White Sea and the Barents Sea as testing grounds for weapons.
According to NRK, Arkhangelsk Radio sent out an advance warning about several missile launches from the White Sea in the period December 7-10.The warning included launches on the night to Wednesday. An anonymous source in the Northern Fleet told Norwegian news paper VG that they had no information about the incident. Press Attaché at Russia’s Embassy in Oslo Vladimir Isupov did neither have any that could explain the light phenomenon over Northern Norway.

The light was caused by a launch of a Sineva missile from the nuclear submarine “Bryansk” in White Sea, as reported by BarentsObserver.

According to a warning about rocket launching in the White Sea, navigation is prohibited in the southern parts of the sea until December 15.

I can see how the blue part could be from a spiraling missile but the spiraling cloud doesn't really fit from my uneducated perspective. Looks fake.

Obviously dust is flowing into the North Pole from another world.

No definately not fake, too many pictures by hundreds of different people, scientists saw it, military acknowledges it. Hard chance it's fake.

I was thinking the same thing as you, I could see a malfunctioning missile making the blue part, but the perfect swirl that oculd be seen for hundreds of miles is kind of odd imo.

So far only anonymous reports that it was russia missile fired from sub in white sea, but nothing official yet.

It is rather odd, and it stays in the same spot and swirls a bit, then it sorta "opens up". What happens then? Does it just disappear? Or dissapate? It could be something alien. Or an odd phenomena. It would be easy to say it was a failed missle, that would end the questions, but would it be true?

Haha, well in the tradition of Snuson threads I suppose getting off subject for a second would only be proper.

A missile is the most likely reason, although some things don't add up, at leas the blue part looks like a missile goign out of controll. Also, it looks like an RPG like the ones used in Iraq, that swirl around yet continue in one direction.

It dissapated after being solid for 12 minutes apparently. So some people are saying that if this was exhaust or something it'skind of odd that it lingered.

And for the conspiracy minded people, there is a Norwegian HAARP type facility in this area called Eiscat. Since this happened at pretty high altitude according to scientists, could have been someone heating the ionosphere. Some countries have used this method to slightly alter the weather, but it just wouldn't make sense that something would have shot up leaving a blue trial like it did unless there was some projectile involved. So probably just a missile.

EISCAT: is an acronym for the European Incoherent Scatter Scientific Association. It operates three incoherent scatter radar systems, at 224 MHz, 931 MHz in Northern Scandinavia and one at 500 MHz on Svalbard, used to study the interaction between the Sun and the Earth as revealed by disturbances in the ionosphere and magnetosphere. At the Ramfjordmoen facility (near Tromsø, Norway) it also operates an ionospheric heater facility, similar to HAARP. Additional receiver stations are located in Sodankylä, Finland, and Kiruna, Sweden. The EISCAT Headquarters are also located in Kiruna.

The only thing that gets me is how perfectly symetrical it is. Pretty cool if it was a failed missile that just happened to spin so perfectly. But very possible.

Video of it. Looks like portal opening lol.

Russia deny's having launched anything last night.
By international law, countries notify each other so places like NORAD don't go on red alert thinking an errant nuke is coming.

No word from NASA or NORAD yet

I think the missile theory is most plausable. Alien invaders, plasma, scalar weapons seem just a bit further down the line probability lol.

Still looks awesome, wish i could have seen it.
