    DIY Vehicle Repair

This weekend I spent a bunch of hours changing the front lower control arms on my ancient Mazda 3. Every time I need to get work done, I try to do it myself except for tires and alignments. Oil changes, brakes, replacing parts...they know me at the local parts store (but I buy parts online because its cheaper and it gets delivered if my car is not running )

I have to do the clutch coming up, and I have never done one si I am terrified and excited a the same time.

Y'all do your own work on your vehicles?

Vehicles could be anything from cars, to motorcycles, to bicycles, to skates. If it was practical I would ditch my car for public transit a bike...it's just this city is not really built for that yet.

I used to do most all the work on my vehicles but I can't anymore, not even an oil change or a wax. Sucks big time. I have a 75 MG Midget I want to sell but I have no energy to detail it so just last night I decided to just give it to my daughter and son inlaw. Why bother to sell it when they will end up with the value of it before long anyway.

I'd post a pix but I'd have to resize it.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Those midgets are popular here, lots of people have them in their driveways, but I don’t see many on the road. I think they’re cool and want to test drive one, but I’m more of a wagon man…don’t have one of those either.

As I get older it’s harder to keep crawling under my car, I’d like to be able to not own a car one day…but as for now I can keep it up. It is day two of recovery and I am sore as all get out from cranking on those wrenches at weird angles.

I am about to let go of my 89 Lincoln Town Car. Too much work to keep it running (tho I love it), too many electrical problems, parts are getting way harder to find, and I have to make room in the driveway for the kids getting cars soon. Ah well, at least I had some of the last good road trips with the kids as kids in it.

Used to do typical maintenace on vehicles with rebuilding a motorbike starter about the biggest I've ever taken on. Never anything like a car clutch or front end stuff. Id have to attend youtube university for that type of stuff and then determine if I'd want to risk any mistakes.

Everything I learned about car repair I learned in YouTube. My family wasn’t much of do it yourselfers with cars…but I’m cheap so I’ll learn to fix anything YouTube will teach me. I watched three videos on how to do it, glad I did because there were some great tips to make it much less of a PITA.

The hard part is I’ve got basic tools and no impact/lift/whatever. Jackstands and a basic tool set mostly. Oh, and a hammer…use that more than I thought I would.

In the plus side this is a southern car so no rust from salt and what have you…it’s rare to get a stuck bolt on this one.

You are a trooper. Same boat here, but my next door neighbor has a garage about the size of my entire house and a 10K lb. lift inside with any tool you can imagine. I dont like to bother him too much, but I have a bunch of front end stuff that is creaking and may ask for some help switching them out. They do say you have to go get a realignment when you flip out that front end stuff from what I hear.

Bruh, I want a neighbor like that. Lol. Yeah my alignment went out of whack last week when I hit a pothole that pretty much was the one that gave up the bushings. The good news is if I hold the steering wheel straight. I will lazily list to the right. It’s good for merging lol.

That front end stuff will get you though. Especially when the whole car starts shimmying down the road after you hit the pothole that is unavoidable.

Hahahaha. Good postive outlook. Years back, I had a 5 speed manual I lost reverse in for some weeks before the rest of the gears went. Talk about making driving interesting.

I had a Jeep Liberty automatic that did that, but that was a car that I absolutely hated driving. Not a “Jeep”, not quite a wagon, and not an SUV. It was tough to love that car and was the last automatic I drove. I love a 5 speed so much, I kinda never want to get rid of my Mazda. I might post a glamour shot of it tomorrow if I park it in a hot spot…

We had champane colored Cherokee 30 or so years ago. It was pretty decent. Then we got a Grand Cherokee that had the most incredible stereo. Drove that one for 20 years......now I'm wearing 2 hearing aids, lol

My good friend in PA swears by used Jeep Cherokees with a straight 6 and a 5 speed. I don’t think he’s owned anything but for the last 20 years.

Look at that baby shine. Also, the sticker behind the dent/rust says “Tis but a scratch”…not very clear in the photo.

I’ll never sell it and when it is time for me to get rid of it I’m entering it in a demolition derby. 🏁
