    Someone stole my scooter

I went outside my apartment building this morning to go visit my brother who's in town, and my Honda Ruckus had vanished during the night. I'm so bummed, it was so much fun to ride around town for the last two and a half years. I spent $4 every 10 days on gas and drove it everyday, everywhere. It took me to work and back in 10 minutes flat. Now some jackass is out there trying to figure out how to get a new ignition set installed or hack it.

I filed a report with the cops, they said they might find it abandoned sometime between now and a couple years from now, I'm checking craigslist for it, and I've looked all around my place in case it was rolled downhill for a drunken joyride, but it was probably just loaded into the back of a pick-up. Does anyone have any experience with the cops recovering a stolen vehicle? Or any insight as to what one would do with a stolen scooter? The parts are damn near worthless. Thanks.

Sorry to hear that Roo :^(

I think your screwed as far as the cops go. That's somewhere lower on the priority list than cleaning the fuzz balls from the bottom of the filing cabinet :^/

Why would somebody want it? Quick sale and money, and the buyer cheap transportation.

Thanks Lx, yeah I know the cops won't go looking for it lol, my only hope is that if the bastard gets frustrated with it and dumps it somewhere, eventually the cops might respond to complaints of a scooter in the bushes. That's pretty much the only scenario I can think of where the cops would save the day for me.

As for the other question it just seems like it would be such a hassle to redo the ignition or hotwire it all the time, but the reality is that its a big city out there, with plenty of pros who can do that stuff no problem.

thanks for the reply. I miss it so much already. Damn I hate riding the bus to work.

Yah when I was younger I built a 90's CRX with a JDM B-16 and a bunch of other sweet mods costing me thousands. I was so happy when I was finnaly able to drive it home. Before I could even insure it, it was gone.

Moral of the story: The cops only look for it after it's been dumped in an alley, and even then probably won't even have the decency to call you about it.

Sorry Roo. I generally don't worry about my motorcycle but worry all the time when I am out on the scooter. Damn thing weighs like a hundred pounds and could easily be thrown in the back of a pickup.

I hope you get really lucky and it's found.

Thanks guys, yeah I don't have high hopes for it. Still checking craigslist and calling shops around town to ask for their help in keeping an eye out for some bastard asking stupid questions about the ignition. If anyone gets a scooter, motorcycle, boat trailer, or anything else that is cheap to insure, get comprehensive coverage. Like a dumbass, I paid $112 a YEAR for just liability and collision, the minimum, and comprehensive including theft coverage would have been $166. Per Year. stupid stupid stupid. Even though they would have given me the value on a 3-year old scooter, it would have been $700 toward something, instead of nothing.

Well that sucks. Sorry that happened Roo. If you want, I have an old harley here that you can have but you have to come get it. It still runs but it would need some electrical work. I think its a 1959 electra glide.

Damn Roo. That would make for a fun vacation this summer. Hitchhike out to Illinois, and ride some classic iron back home ;^)

Wow that would be a fun Summer. I'd finally get to talk to PP's wife in person too

Seriously, thanks for the offer PP. When is the last time you rode it? If I remember right you got into an accident and gave it up? I don't know what I'm going to do. For now, sulking will suffice, along with some minor detective work.

If you have 250 bucks you can get a remote gps tracking device... not sure where you would install this on a scooter though. Sometimes the cops just aren't the best help when it comes to stolen vehicles... I have a friend whos car was recently stolen and he found it in a parking lot with absolutely no gas in the tank. It seems like someone drove it and just left it there after it ran out of gas.
