My entire weekend revolved around the making and serving of it for a charity event.
Never actually tried it before this weekend because I always thought I hated beets.

That's the Polish soup, right? It is delicious.

Oh man Borš (as we call it here) is deliciuos! Only I don't put sour cream into soup but on a dark bread, with some pepper and green onion. Damn I have to say my grandma that she have to make some today.

Yup, we also put a little dab of sour cream on top. Always seemed standard but many of the oldies at the charity event liked it without also. Yes, the smell is what turned me off as a kid while my Grandmother would make it. It would literally make me leave the house. I cannot believe it took me so long to try it. Pretty ridiculous!!

Bors is actually quite popular in Russia but very common all throughout East Euro.

Awww...Thanks Big!! This was actually my first time salmon fishing! It was a big deal because I was sucking at fishing until some local guy (my husband had ditched me and gone downriver in his waders) took me under his wing and taught me how to fish there in the Puyallup River (I know my fellow WA fellas know this river). I caught the fish within minutes of instruction and was jumping up and down and hugged my instructor and by the time my husband arrived on scene, he had caught ZERO! Take that!! Hahahha!!! Oh, I am a little competitive too!!

I tried making hand pulled noodles today. Shit's a trip. Youtube it if you haven't seen it. Had to make my noodles pretty thick because I used whole wheat pastry flour. I hand kneaded that stuff for like an hour and couldn't get it so put it in the KitchenAid mixer and got it decent. Definitely will try again with different flour.

A chef in Xi'an China tried to teach me how to do that. He got it started then handed the mess over to me, and after a flurry of dough slapping and pulling and twisting I got a few noodles out of it. It really is cool to see someone with skills do it. I tried my hand at homemade noodles about a year ago, but rolled the dough out super thin and sliced it. Turned out too stiff and chewy, but that was from the preparation. It was a letdown after spending a few hours on the noodles. Hope yours turn out better next time snuffy!

Mac salad chilling in the fridge with diced orange and red bell peppers, diced kosher dills and shallot, apple cider vinegar, honey, S&P and plenty of mayo; pork butt with Hawaiian sea salt and little liquid smoke in the crockpot since early this morning, sliced cabbage rounds roasting with olive oil and fennel seeds in the oven, white rice about to go on. Kalua pig time

There is a place in Chinatown DC called Chinatown Express that does this in the window. Always debated trying it. I will use our bread maker to get the dough ready though. One of the best purchases I ever made was that bread maker.

Give it a shot. I tried a couple times now and I suck. Definitely let me know your recipe if it works out!

Yeah bread is the staff of life. I love baking bread. I got a nice sourdough starter going.

It wil, be a while but should I get daring I will share my results. I eat a lot less pasta these days.

So I musta missed a lot of these posts when I was banned. Making noodles sounds fun. Anyway I had a bunch of family over last Saturday. Made a turkey. So today I am making turkey stock with the carcass, carrots, parsnips, flat leaf parsley, onion, bay leaves, garlic, herbs de provence, and peppercorns. About an hour and a half in and the house smells delectable. It is said that you first eat with your eyes but I say you first eat soup with your nose......

I spent about 4 hours today trying to make tofu and bricked it. Next time!

I've been doing a lot of cooking and need to post more pics on this thread!

Be careful chefs!! Tonight I was slicing up some tea-smoked duck from last night's Chinese take-out from this incredible restaurant near my house. I was chopping into small pieces for my baby to eat and I sliced off part of the tip of my left thumb with a big ass knife. It's not drastic, but I do wish the piece I removed, along with a good portion of my thumb nail, was a few degrees of magnitude smaller. It sucks.

I have a friend who did the same thing to her finger last Winter but mine is definitely bigger. My girl made me go to the ER and she even brought the piece I cut off in case they could reattach it. This makes it sound way worse than it is and I was laughing at her because it is too small for that. The doc said they *could* do it but healing is way slower and there are potential complications all for something that should only amount to a minor cosmetic issue after it's healed in several weeks.

Anyway, careful with those kitchen knives homies. I got some good bandaging and a few vicodin and I'm good. Sucks that it happened, and I hope I don't end up with a pointy thumb.
