Yeah. I'm definitely hooked. This is my first post from the device too. There's a lot to learn...including the whole typing thing.

I know!! I can't wait either! I was going to wait, but I sold my iPad 1 for a very good price, making it cheap to upgrade.

Also saw this, which is very cool if true!

AT&T Will Continue Grandfathered Unlimited Data Plans With iPad 2

Those lucky users who grabbed an original iPad early in the product cycle and scored an unlimited data plan have been rather worried about the prospect of upgrading and losing that unlimited data allowance. Luckily, AT&T is doing something vaguely resembling a decent move, and if you already have the unlimited plan you’ll be able to keep it with the iPad 2.

Hopefully this means that upgraders to the iPhone 5 are offered the same deal when their time comes to update to a newer handset — and can keep using data with impudence without worrying about going over the limit.

AT&T's data restrictions are draconian and are made to jip you. I have the HIGHEST plan available for my iphone which is 2 gigabytes. I blow through that in the first 10 days of the month, then they charge me $10 for each additional one. I pay about $60 in data each month which is insane. 2 gigabytes means I can listen to the radio for half the month but that's about it. I wish I had been around when they were offering unlimited plans.

Edit: also I heard that the ipad 3 next year would be the real game changer, but that the ipad 2 was pretty much the same thing with minor improvements. I don't knwo if it's true but that's what some apple employees are saying apparently.

I just learned the other day that iphone users can't have unlimited data plans. What kind of shit is that?? I had no idea. I have a blackberry and while it's pretty whack, it does the job and I don't even think a limited data plan is possible with Tmobile, it's $25 a month for unlimited. I thought about getting an ipad of a couple seconds but I'm so glad I didn't. Instead I just bought the brand new Macbook Pro 13". It's very portable and fast as hell. I love it!

I was lucky enough to grab the unlimited in the beginning for the iPad. I am hoping the personal hotspot in iOS 4.3 will allow me to take advantage of that. $60 bucks for 5GB is not too high (well it is but not out of the norm). Every carrier has a 5GB cap on the 3G USB dongles and charges 60 bucks.

I too heard about the iPad 3 being a game changer, AND supposedly going to be released in fall. Apple of course is denying this as no one will upgrade if that's true.

Verizon is doing the same thing with their iPad. A couple weeks of unlimited and then they will start changing their plans. The strategy does 2 things (both I am against); 1st, it forces people to get in ASAP before they change, and 2nd, it's like bait and switch. You get an iPhone on launch day, with the unlimited plan, and then over the next couple months all your friends and family decide they want one but now are limited to 2GB. Sux. It's like Comcast constantly pushing their streaming capabilities and then capping you at 250GB. Penalizing you for doing what they encourage you to do in the first place.

Personally I'm not an apple fan, never will be. To me Droid makes the most amount of sense. But its limited to what ever 3rd party hardware that will support it. My brother has an Iphone 4 that dual boots in IOS or Driod nifty. I had a jailbroken iphone3 he thought he bricked that i revived, the novelty wore off in a month or so. My biggest bitch and this includes apple and google/droid is that there seems to be very low standards on what makes a good app their market place gets flooded with garbage.

As for tablets, once they can be powerful enough to compete with my laptop then i will start considering. It would be nice to use one in place of my wacom since i'm too cheap to purchase a cintiq. But at this point it would be a novelty. If i want a cintiq i should just purchase a cintiq since anything else will just be a let down.

plus the data plans here are retarded for any mobile device, i don't feel like getting raped.

                  Thats just my 2 cents.

I ordered at 1am, stood in line last year (was fun) but this year decided to just order.

You are completely right that tablets are mainly just novelty right now, they are good for very casual users like me but it is in no way a replacement for a computer if you are trying to do anything serious. My ipad is 99% used by my 2 year old who has become a pro at it btw and has taught herself the ABC's and a host of songs on it lol. It's like the best educational toy I have ever seen, and I had no idea a 2 year old would be able to pick it up and use it but that's how it's designed, to be very easy to use.Good for older people who just watch hulu and check email and stuff, which is most people if you actually think about it.

I wish there was a super powerful techie nerd tablet though, one that was open source and that all the programming community gets behind to build shit for, but that' unlikely to happen.

I've often thought an open busy box would be cool to make, and sell. Something where the manufacturer encourages hacking, and has no limitations other than the platform itself. I think something like that would have a strong niche following. Not iPad popularity, but a solid seller.

I agree. I have specific uses for my iPad and wouldn't want any other to replace it, but having a open source hackable pad to play around with would be great. Sure, you can jailbreak and root current tablets, but you have to use specific builds because of the drivers. We need a set of open source drivers for our "hackable tablet" so we can install our own OS of whatever type and have drivers to go with it.
