    Why?

You do know that you can rip your CDs to many formats via iTunes, that are fully portable to all other media players, right?
    I just don't like itunes :^D

This is a way better deal. If you want all the apps just dual boot Android OS.

I'm not trying to argue that the iPad is better but it makes me wonder. So is the iPad's battery life that far ahead of most of these netbooks? The iPad has a bigger screen and twice the battery.

In this particular case, the ipad has a bigger screen, and longer battery life, but I'd take the Eee over the ipad. There's netbooks that give 8 hours battery life, but you pay a bit more for them. I like the Eee because it's a real computer, with a real keyboard, and I can install whatever app I want on it. There'll be better tablets out later this year, but I still don't think the category will be more than a niche given the current implementation.

Ipad: Won't kick off untill it is cheaper than 500$, which is too much for a glorified e-book reader/ipod.

It does rock, and it looks beautifull though. The problem with Apple is they are trying to force marketshare into their corner by making you only go through them for everything, they aren't very open. This is why I like google better but I have yet to see a cool tablet from them. Sony is coming out with one that looks like a notebook binder you'd have in school which lookd pretty neat.

All the news and magazine companies are hoping to bring their industry back to life with these things but the average joe will not spend 500$ to look cool while they read e-books. The price must come down.

My wife told me last night after watching the demo that it seems like the perfect computer for her. If she could VNC into her work computer I think it would be. Also for my Dad and my mother in law it would be great for them. I still depend on my desktop since I do most of my work in the Adobe Creative Suite. My wife does not enjoy getting on a computer at home since she is in a cubicle all day. She already does all of her email and web surfing on the iPhone in bed. I'm really liking this thing more and more. I don't do any real gaming on my computer. I spend way to much time on the web. Email/Calendar/Podcasts thats about all I do that isn't work related. I do enjoy editing my home videos, which is a bit CPU intensive but I am really thinking that these type of devices will do 90% of the things that the average computer user wants and just a few years into the future the sky is the limit. I do think that desktop OS's will not be the standard for tablets. I think the iPhone OS is far from adequate if processor power brings tablets inline with current desktops but I think that tablets are going to be used in a totally different way and user interfaces will be just as different.

So I got home a few hours ago with my new iPad. I opted for the wifi one since I already have a jailbroken iPhone 3GS and can't really justify spending more money on net access.

So far, it's a really nifty device. Once I get it all set up with my apps and such, I'll be giving it a go instead of taking my laptop to work with me.

If anyone has any questions, ask away!

Congrats Ainkor! I have a couple myself. Got the wifi on release day (had to be part of the experience) and then got the 3G when it came out. I travel a lot so the 3G is really what I need (and it is so handy on trips!) but other times I just have it on wifi. I use it many times throughout the day, even while sitting in front of my computer.

Just had my first work day with it and I didn't need a laptop at all. I am certain there will be times I miss my netbook but that's what logmein is for :P

Made it through the day with only using about 30% of the battery which is pretty nice.

It's a funny story about how I got it....

I have been checking around for the last week to see if any of the local shops have one and none of them did (within 300 miles lol!)

I forgot that Chattanooga TN was reasonably close so for grins and giggles I called them and they had a 16g WIFI. I had em hold it and I grabbed my 14 year old son and off we went for a night of major geeking out.

We left at 6pm, dropped my oldest son off for his prom date (took the normally socially expected pictures and then cut the HELL out!)

We pulled into the Best Buy parking lot at 8:52 (They close at 9) and went to the customer service desk and picked it up.

Walked out into the parking lot and on my laptop tethered to my iPhone activated the iPad, jailbroke it and installed the basics.

Before we really started playing with it we stopped at Starbucks and got the wife a gift (hoping to not get killed when we got back) and then got some grub at Taco Bell. We sat in the parking lot like a bunch of basement dwelling geeks and screwed around with it for about an hour and drove back home!

All in all it was an exceptionally fun day with my youngest, which I get far too few of. Some folks get a kick out of bonding while fishing, my kids and I bond while being total nerds :P

I've been watching Android phones too. At work we use US Cellular and supposedly they will have an Android phone in a few weeks so that will most likely be my next one. The one they are getting looks to be a version of the Incredible which is a BEAST of a phone. I am getting my wife an iPhone 4 on launch day but I am holding off.
