So i just got an Ipad tonight, 100% free of charge.

To quote Stan Marsh from the KFC medical marijuana episode: "I LOVE the future!"

Seriously, it's worth every dollar I didn't spend on it, I am a fanboi, it's better than a laptop, absolutely amazing.

Loving my iPad as well, great for the recreational stuff I'd used laptops for.

Lazer, can you make us a pie chart showing how your time is divided up on any given day, specifically what percentage of your day you spend cruising for monkey porn lololo.

Yah upon further playing with this Ipad and getting some apps and etc (civilization reovlution FTW!) I have decided that God personally made this device for me. It is 100% of everything I need, all in a nice little package. It synced all the photos ive ever tkaen of my kid, all my music and podcasts etc and wrapped it up into a neat package, the internet works perfectly and theres even multiple tabs etc, the apps are amazing.

One thing I like is the magazines, like for example I read wired magazine, so they have an app and it downloads the latest wired magazine and then when i'm offline I can scroll through it. This is great because I normally have stacks of magazines and books at my workplace or at my house and sometimes carry them around in a plastic bag, now I can get them much cheaper and all in 1 place. I'm gonna fill it up with some E-books too, because while some prefer e-ink displays, I actually like reading from the full color digital display.

Seriousely I am hooked, this is the future because they are plug and play, require no maintenance or trouble shooting, and have everything someone from the baby boomer generation needs. Like my mom, she can just turn it on and know how to use it out of the box, and all she will ever do is email, watch movies, talk online etc so it fits her purposes, and all at a fraction of the cost of a laptop (though I still think these are too expensive).

And I got it for free because my wife graduated this weekend and her mom bought it for her as a present, which she then prompty turned over to me And now all her Ipad are belong to me.

              So it's interesting.

The new upgrade to iOS 4.3 will have a tethering option. "Personal HotSpot"

So it pretty much eliminates the need to buy a 3G iPad now. You can simply buy WiFi iPad and just tether off the 3G network from your phone.

I wonder why they did that, that's interesting.

Yeah I am wondering if it will. They "Apple" made it clear that you could not use the iPhone to give wifi to the iPad (they built the restriction in specifically). So I wonder if with the personal hotspot feature they will relax that restriction. I am very interested.

The only thing that sucks is that if you grandfathered in the unlimited data plan (which I did) the tethering apparently doesn't work so you have to switch to one of the other plans. I need to check and see how much data I actually use.

Yeah it does. I started with the first iPhone and upgraded each time. In May 2010 I decided to switch to the HTC EVO and lost my plan. Hated the Android OS so much I gave away the EVO and bought an iPhone 4 four months later with the new 2 gig plan. I never use more than 450 megs on my iPhone in normal use, tethering would probably significantly increase that though, but it's only 10 bucks per gig after the 2.

I'm on the fence as to whether I'll get a 3g iPad2 or just a WiFi one. There is a kick ass app called MyWi that allows bluetooth (low power) tethering on demand from your iPhone to your iPad. It's really nifty how it works. Set the same app up on each device and connect them through the settings and when you turn your iPad on it automatically connects and is online.

If I do decide to get a 3g iPad, the next choice is AT&T or VZW. I use a VZW iPhone for work but I still have my AT&T sim card. Too bad they didn't make the new iPad with the ability to support either GSM or CDMA. That would have been interesting

                        Doesn't MiFi require jailbreaking?

Yea mywi does involve jail breaking. But it's definitely worth it. Plus you can do a restore an no one will ever know you did it. I have a3gs iPhone and a wifi iPad. I use mywi all the time to tether and with my unlimited data it's great. From what I heard AT&T can't tell unless you go nuts and start pulling down tens of gigs a month. There is no jailbreak yet for 4.3 as it isn't out yet. Check out greenpois0n. I used it on my iPad and iPhone with no I'll effects. You can also use mywi as a hotspot and tether any other wifi enabled devices you have regardless of it being installed on anything else.myou really only need t on your phone. What it costs you to by mywi is the same price as a month of AT&T tethering but you only need to buy it once.

I just got a DROID Incredible. Wow, this thing is fantastic. It's my first smartphone so it's nearly all a novelty right now but I'm havin' a great time learning how to use it.

Congrats. Your first smartphone is always a great experience. Some of the novelty will wear off but most will remain. You're hooked now
