The Haitians Are Coming!! The Haitians Are Coming!!
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......
I've been wrong lots of times. Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

No. We are in a collapse ourselves, only our buildings still stand. We cannot afford it, there are no jobs.
We have sent aircraft carriers and hundreds of millions in donations, they will have to make due.
Also, my wife pointed something out to me. Does anyone else feel like this disaster in Haiti has been getting more attention that other natural disasters? I mean the philipines and other countries have tsunamis all the time killing hundreds of thousand and we give aid, but not on the same level as Haiti seems to be getting. Even during Katrina I don't recall their being such a universal effort to get aid there as fast as possible.
EDIT: I would be in favor of temporary refugee status, i.e. them staying here untill thigns get cleaned up, but the problem is it's too har dto keep track of them and make sure they all go back home.

I vote no, for the above reasons. Our nation is in downfall, and no offense to the Haitians, but they are a 3rd world nation, and just generally would not get on well here, being we have no jobs as it is for citizens. And what would they do with them? House them in government housing and give them checks? It's terrible this happened, but we cannot take them. If we do, it's just another nail in the coffin of the USA.

There are already 100,000 to 200,000 illegal Haitians in this country.Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

Holy shit, I couldn't have said it better.
If we decide to take them all in than every time an environmental catastrophe occurs, (which is often) than we will be expected to give handouts and citizenship to everyone. That is not sustainable for our country are anyone else's.
The hundreds of million we sent there in less than a week should be a good start for them though.
Their GDP is only 6.9 billion annually, our donations are more than any of their industries would make on a good year. We should send dr's without borders over there, and like Justin said, triage and gtfo. The whole world already thinks we are trying to take the place over, no need to prove them right.

So alot of Haitians have lost their homes. Thats a dam shame. So are alot of americans. How is our government helping us?
I think we need to help them medically but that can be accomplished over there in Haiti. Not here. The cost of transporting them here alone would be a waste of $. And once they get here half will disappear. We will be supporting them forever. They won't want to go back ever. IMO There are quite a few reasons to leave them there. If you think about all the different problems, this disaster will snowball like no other.
Help em but do it over there.Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I agree, I think lxskllr has an excellent idea. Funnel some federal aid into a short-term contracted rebuilding corp and take sign-ups for 60-90 day jobs rebuilding water lines and buildings necessary for housing and infrastructure. It would help curb mis-allocation of funds to pay unemployed Americans directly to lprovide services that are currently going unused and unpaid in the US. Don't bring 'em here, what they don't need is to abandon their homeland, but help to rebuild it. Ultimately it would cool to see resorts and tourism sprout up like on the other side of Hispanola, get some rich tourists in there in the years to follow to spend some private wealth and create jobs in hospitality. I encourage everyone to at least text 90999 and pay an extra $10 on your phone bill next month. You might not even notice it. And while we can't be sure the money goes to good use, it's better than nothing. There are probably better ways to help financially, so if you seek them out, good for you. I took the easy route and it's literally the least I could do, so if anyone has a better idea please share or just do it.

Unfortunately tourism will never find its way to Haiti. Its a very, very dangerous place that a tourist would never want to visit, unless of course he wanted to die.Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

IMHO
AS a European I say:
Keep them in their homeland, Haiti has been and always be a mess, yes i'm shocked b the number of deaths and children left orphan...
but i tell you this in my country there are some ( alot of) very poor people, and i don't see anybody doing anth for them, but when it comes to aid "foreigners2 evbdy seems willing to help them...
Save them, fix them and leave them
