    Wal-Mart style of protein supplements?

I usually buy like Optimum Nutrition but a friend of mine tells me he saves money by buying his protein powder at WalMart for a lot cheaper. You think this would be just as effective if you use a lot? Or is it a lot worse?

If it is a good idea, why does no one do it?

You talking about that Body Fortress stuff? I tried it once, and it tasted terrible. I use Optimum as well, and while it costs more than the Wal Mart stuff, it's still one of the more economical brands out there, and the taste ensures I'll use it.

Optimum has been around for a long time and has always maintained a great reputation, so I find it difficult to stray. Not to say you shouldn't give BF a shot, but don't set your expectations too high.

Just make sure it doesn't come from China. God knows what would be in it...

Confuscious says: One does not need to ask God what it would contain. Lead is surely the answer.

Yeah, I question quality control here. From the body fortress website:

All of our products offer the highest quality ingredients available. To ensure this, our products undergo rigorous analysis for purity, potency, safety and freshness. Furthermore, our state-of-the-art laboratory, manufacturing and packaging facilities ensure the highest quality nutritional supplements money can buy. With Body Fortress®, you can be assured you’re receiving the best products available.

          From the ON website:

Quality assurance professionals make routine checks on all storage, blending, and production areas and conduct final inspections daily. Together, these procedures allow Optimum Nutrition to constantly deliver first-rate sports nutrition supplements under the strictest quality control standards known as current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs).

So ON follows a standard, but BF has no mention of it. For all I can tell their QC is wiping down the kitchen counter with lysol between batches.
