Deputies Make Two Arrests At Suspected "Beastiality Farm"
Federal investigators arrest two men they say sexually abused three dogs in Sumas.
WHATCOM COUNTY - It's a crime too disturbing to describe. Police arrest a man they say has been having sex with dogs.
Whatcom County Sheriff deputies arrested the man Wednesday.
Federal investigators were at a home near Sumas.
They were investigating the homeowner when a man visited the home. During their search warrant, they confiscated computers and electronic recording devices.
They found a video of the visitor and his alleged acts of sexually abusing three dogs.
They arrested the visitor, a man from Great Britain, for engaging in sexual conduct and contact with an animal. The act is a class C felony.
He was booked into the Whatcom County Jail on investigation of three counts of first-degree animal cruelty.
The man who owns the compound is a convicted cocaine smuggler. Authorities say it appears he may have been running a bestiality farm in which visitors could engage in all sorts of twisted sex acts with animals.
The man was arrested at his ramshackle, heavily wooded compound near the Canadian border in Whatcom County along with the 51-year-old tourist from Great Britain who is accused of having sex with three dogs.
Dozens of dogs, horses and pet mice were seized, along with what investigators described as thousands of images of bestiality and apparent child pornography.
It wasn't immediately clear whether other zoophilic tourists had been to the farm.
But Assistant U.S. Attorney Susan Roe says it would not be surprising.
"I expect there may have been other people visiting the property," she said.
The man who lives on the property has not been charged yet with any bestiality or child porn charges at this point, only with violating the terms of his supervised release.
Stephen Clarke of Peterborough, England, was arrested on state charges for allegedly abusing the dogs.
The Washington man's lawyer, Howard Phillips, insisted there's no evidence his client violated the terms of his release.
"There's no hard evidence he's been engaging in bestiality at all," Phillips said.
The Washington man also arrested has a history of training and breeding dogs and horses. He appeared in U.S. District Court in Seattle on Friday and was ordered detained pending another hearing, set for April 30.
He calls his operation Exitpoint Stallions Limitee and expounds at length on its Web site about his philosophy.
"Are we unconventional in our approach to stallion care? Absolutely," he writes. He later adds: "We don't wall off sexual energy in our stallions as something dangerous or inappropriate, but rather channel that energy towards positive, safe, appropriate paths. There's a proper time and place for it, and we work towards those sorts of skills rather than fighting un-winnable fights against deeply-rooted instincts."
